Description
Hello,
We are a lively three-generation family of seven living together under one roof. I am Mama Fauziah, the heart of the home, living with my husband, our three children, and two very social and joyful grandchildren.
Our home is perched on a hillside in the natural rainforest of Kuala Teriang, on the island of Langkawi. Surrounded by lush greenery, wildlife, and fresh jungle air, it is a peaceful place for those who enjoy nature and a slower rhythm of life.
Workawayers stay on the top floor of the house. We offer two private rooms with double beds in a traditional Malay-style house, with shared bathroom facilities. What was once a dormitory now serves as a shared living room. There is also a large balcony with a spacious kitchen where volunteers can prepare their own meals, although restaurants are conveniently located nearby. For those who prefer camping, there is plenty of space to set up your own tent. Please note that the final 100 meters to the house is a hillside path, accessible by motorbike.
We welcome volunteers who are have experience with gardening/landscaping maintenance as the property in the jungle requires regular upkeep and sometimes more ambitious projects.
Additionally, volunteers who are experienced with childcare and/ore elderly care who want to become part of our family life are also welcome!
To ensure that the experience is meaningful and beneficial for everyone, we require a minimum stay of two weeks.
In return, we offer a peaceful place to sleep, two home cooked Malay meals per day (generally breakfast + lunch), a chance to reconnect with nature, experience daily life in a Malaysian family, and build meaningful connections—hopefully friendships that bring you back again in the future.
And since more than 1 volunteer is able to stay at the same time, you might also meet some like-minded world travellers in the process!

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
1. Landscaping/Gardening/ Property maintenance: As we are located in a luscious jungle, it is quick to grow over and get overwhelming, especially during the rainy season. As such, many of the tasks at this property would be associated with upkeep and other gardening projects depending on the volunteers' capabilities.
2. Childcare: We are looking for someone who can look after with our toddlers in the family (2 toddlers, 4 and 2 years old). Most previous childcare experience will be transferable here as these two toddlers are easy to connect with. We hope to find a patient, creative person who enjoys engaging with young children. Your role would be to care for them 5 hours a day, spending time feeding, playing, doing crafts, and supporting simple learning activities. We suggest a try out time for a week and see how it works for everyone.
3. Eldercare: We have 1 elder male senior citizen in the home who is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. As such, we require someone (preferable with a nursing or eldercare background) to support this family member around the home. As this requires sensitivity and strength, we hope to find someone who is flexible and able to adapt to his needs. He is a good patient and receives any help and company with open arms to assist his mobility. This help generally consists of feeding, assistance with showering and hygiene, getting some daily walking, and any other smaller tasks he needs assistance with.
Quick note: The days in Langkawi island can be long and hot as the dry season continues. As such, we generally start work at 8:00am and are wrapping up by around 1pm, when lunch is provided. The mornings are the best time to make progress on the property and as I myself have to care for the rest of my family in the afternoons and evenings, I prefer to accept Workawayers who are readily available to work in the mornings, adjusting for weather or rain as needed.

Accommodation
There are two private rooms with double beds for the Workawayers.
There are also several dorm beds available in the main sleeping floor.
There are 2 bathrooms and showers on the property available for the volunteers as well.
Home cooked breakfast and lunch on working days. A kitchen is available and there are restaurants and stores close by. Modifications are possible for pescatarian/vegetarian diets.
There is no wifi on the property but volunteers are welcome to purchase an affordable SIM card on the island. e-SIMs work well too.
What else ...
Many beaches, cafés, waterfalls, and other tourist attractions are within a few minutes to an hour drive. Not far away there is a motorbike rental service.
Spend a day at a beach or waterfall, take a motorbike up Gunung Raya Mountain, or drive around the entire island; whatever you desire! There are also several stores, a mini-mart, and restaurants within walking distance of the Guest House.
