I feel really grateful for having had the opportunity to discover this place and share those 3 weeks (January-February) of my life there with Ana, Bruno, Fred and the others great volunteers (and Michael, for one week). They are all beautiful souls. This was such a rich experience to discover another way of living. I felt immediatly at home, never judged. Ana, Bruno and Fred really do their best to make you comfortable and to make sure you have everything you need. I think the communication is easy and fluid. You have to work 25hrs per week and they are flexible : if you need a day off, you can add hours on other days, as long as at the end you did 25hrs/week. I never felt spyed or pressurised about the work, which is really important to me. The tasks were always ok, and most of them were outside so it's really nice when the weather is on your side ! Some were really meditative (like cleaning the temple :D). Each day, we do a gratitude circle before beginning the work and we eat lunch all together : those two moments are real sharing times, very powerful. You can join the spiritual activities if you like to, but if you don't, it's completely fine. You'll never be judged or discriminated for that. You can discover and take what you're feeling like : for me, that's the magic of this place and that what makes this workaway a real cultural and social exchange. Thank you so much for everything, I wish you all the light and love you gave me :)

Bori and Hanga spent 10 days helping me on my farm, helping with farm chores and the goats. Altough I don't usually have workawayers in the winter, I decided to host them because their communication was very clear from the beginning, and their timing fit ours well. They helped to cut and clear branches that the goats previously chewed on. They didn't mind continuing in the cold weather, and were focused on what we discussed. They were also very flexible with adapting to my car-free way of life. They enjoyed the company of the goats, being outdoors and cooked for all of us while respecting my gluten free kitchen. We played some cool games after and discussed various topics like ecologic living, and I am happy I got to know them and their views on these matters, also to to help they provided to start of this season on the farm.

Highly Recommended. Rick is what every Workaway host wants, he is hard working, competent, friendly and he approaches every task with a great attitude. Plus his dog is great too! We definitely enjoyed hosting him (and Charlie) and we hope they will return.

I had a fantastic January/February on Rusinga Island! Jane's home is very cozy, and you will quickly feel at home. The children at the school are amazing and takes such good care of each other. The same goes for the teachers lead by principal Sharon, who is doing such a great job. Rusinga island is beautiful with amazing views over the Victoria Lake. Be sure to go up the hill to watch the sunset! On the weekends we took a day trip to Ruma national park, where you'll be sure to see heaps of giraffes and rhinos. We also took the water bus from Mbita to Takawiri island, which was nice as a little trip. Be sure to visit Rusinga Island Lodge aswell, they have a beautiful garden and swimmingpool. If you're considering going I say go for it! I hope I get to return one day!!

This was our final workaway-stop and we had a wonderful time during our six week stay! Chris and Noelle have a beautiful family and home and they made us feel like a part of it right away. 💕 We lived in a nice camper next to the house which we enjoyed because we had our own little space with a kitchen and everything. Still, we were always welcome to hang out at the house and ate dinner together every day. Most of the work we did was on the property or with the kids and the dog Juno. We also helped Janice, Chris‘ mom around the house and prepared meals. On our free days we were able to explore the surroundings (Niagra falls, Toronto and so on) and even went camping with the whole family which was really fun. In general we were always welcome to every school play, soccer practice or trip to the boat in the nearby town Owen Sound, where we spend great evenings making burgers and talking. Noelle always took us with her to her yoga class as well! All in all, we had a lovely stay with them and would recommend it to anyone! ☺️

Mat and Jo have been incredible volunteers. Extremely helpful and competent. They are tireless workers and love good food! I would recommend anyone to host them, even for long periods. Friendly and discreet, they have also been wonderful company!

We have just said goodbye to Yvonne and Dennis after two very enjoyable weeks in their company. They are serious about learning Spanish, and are very interested in understanding the culture here. They worked really hard for us, and happy to take on any challenges that we suggested. Unfortunately the weather was poor for the first week, so they were doing work inside - but they are very skilled at painting and we are very pleased with what they achieved. Then when the rain stopped their laboursin the garden involved many trips to the refuse bin - all done willingly and efficiently - an enormous help. We would be happy to recommend Dennis and Yvonne to anyone thinking of sharing a workaway experience with them.

I spent two wonderful weeks with the family. I arrived speaking almost no Spanish and was able to learn so much (they were very patient with me, understanding and teaching me). As for the "work," which is more like volunteering without any real constraints, the tasks were very varied, and they are very flexible depending on what you want to do and your schedule, which is really great, and I never felt alone during this volunteer experience. The town is very relaxing and welcoming, and it's also possible to explore by car (for a small fee, which is very reasonable). You can also go to the beach, which is right next to the town, perfect for swimming or sunbathing. I felt very well integrated into the family from the start, and I highly recommend this volunteer opportunity.

Me and my partner stayed with Nikki for two weeks. The place is nice, exactly as described. The work was mostly garden upkeep and DIY. We did painting, electrical work, woodwork and plumbing. Nothing too complicated or demanding. There were good tools, which is rare in The Gambia. There was still plenty to do, much needs repair or normal maintenance. Nikki is an excellent cook. She provided us with three good meals every working day, freshly made. And on our request vegetarian, which she really went out of her way to do. There are a lot rules about how things should be done. It pays to pay attention, and be clear in communication, that keeps the relationship as maintained as the place. The location is good. Quiet surroundings. 10 Minutes walk to a small supermarket and the beach. From there plenty minivans to the towns of Brufut, Tanji and further to Senegambia.

An absolutely super volunteer and a great person, Fiona fit in so well to our community immediately and connected well with everyone during her time here. She is a willing worker and skilled carpenter, and did bits and pieces around the place even after her work hours were over, including fixing the chair I am sitting on now. I can strongly recommend her for a position in any community, voluntary or otherwise.

I had the opportunity to stay at this hostel for a month and overall had a very positive experience. The location is absolutely beautiful. Access to the beach and a fresh cup of hot coffee every morning was such a gift and something I will cherish forever. Breakfast options were delicious, and the discounted surf lessons were a huge perk. I made beautiful lifelong friendships during my stay, and for the most part, the environment felt safe and welcoming. The dorm A/C was especially appreciated, as it was very humid during my stay (November–December). There were a few areas that could be improved. Vegetarian options were limited, and vegetarians were required to pay extra for a separate meal. Some meals were quite simple, although others were very good. Communication could also be clearer. Concerns were typically handled through the volunteer coordinator rather than directly by staff, and since the coordinator was not always on-site, this sometimes led to misunderstandings. Overall, the cultural immersion, lifelong friendships, and beachside experience made it very memorable, and I’m incredibly grateful for the memories made here and plan to return.

Well, where to start? Unfortunately, I only stayed with Alejandra and her family for about two weeks and the time flew by way too fast. This entire family was so sweet and attentive, always making sure I was okay and comfortable. I could always ask questions about the tasks but also about absolutely anything else, including advice on where to go etc. The girls are the sweetest ever. They‘re kind, energetic, funny and immediately made me feel welcomed. I had plenty of time to get around and discover a lot of stunning places, which I‘m so grateful for. The apartment was super close to a train station, so it was easy to go everywhere by train. In the evenings, I often had really pleasant conversations with Alejandra and the others. They truly made me feel so at home and I already look forward to the day I come back!! Thank you guys again for your hospitality and everything you‘ve done for me, I miss you all a lot!!<3

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, Asuka. You are truly an incredible person, and meeting you has been such a beautiful surprise in our lives. We absolutely loved spending time with you, talking for hours about everything — France, Japan, life, dreams, and so much more. Every conversation felt meaningful and special. I was deeply touched to meet someone so genuinely curious about other cultures, so intelligent, open-minded, and thoughtful. You understand things so quickly, and you always bring such positive energy and initiative. It’s rare to meet someone like you. Everyone can be happy having you like a workawayer, you will be blessed by her presence. Please remember that our doors will always be open for you here in the South — and next time, we promise even more sunshine . ☀️ à la prochaine Asuka

I had a wonderful stay in Obour with Tarek, Mindy, and their children, Noah and Farah. The family is incredibly kind and welcoming, making the entire experience very pleasant. The tasks I was assigned were fair and well within my capabilities, allowing for a good balance during my stay. I also thoroughly enjoyed visiting Cairo, which is a truly beautiful city. I am especially grateful to Tarek for his incredible help on my first day. I arrived having lost my suitcase, including essential medication, and Tarek went out of his way to help me replace everything I had lost. His support during that stressful situation was outstanding and very much appreciated. I highly recommend this Workaway for anyone looking for a reliable and friendly host in Egypt.

Fer and Manu were so much more than volunteers during the two months they stayed with us. From day one, they showed commitment, responsibility, and such a beautiful energy that naturally blended into our space and team. They helped with everything we needed: maintenance, organization, hospitality tasks, and general support — always with a positive attitude and genuine willingness to contribute. They are trustworthy, autonomous, and solution-oriented, which as a host is something I value deeply. What truly sets them apart is that they don’t just complete tasks — they improve every space they inhabit. They left order, care, and harmony in every corner. Their presence elevated the standard of our place: they organized, optimized, and took care of everything as if it were their own. They also gave so much love and attention to our pets, Sasha and Tango, who will miss them very much. That level of sensitivity and kindness cannot be taught — it comes from who they are as people. Beyond being outstanding workers, they are warm, respectful, and deeply human. They built genuine connections with us and with our guests. We recommend them 100% to any host looking not only for help, but for true quality of character. They left our place better than they found it… and left us with a friendship that feels infinite 💛 Endless thanks, friends. We hope you come back to Uvita after your adventures in new lands. A big hug. Nata ✨

I was at Olaf’s place for about four weeks from January to February, and it was the best first Workaway experience I could have imagined. He is a very kind and helpful person who gives great advice and truly wants you to feel at home. His house is cozy, and you will always have enough food. His parents are also very kind, and the food his mom prepares is absolutely delicious. The work-life balance is perfect. You usually work early in the morning, starting around 7 a.m., and again in the evening at about 7 p.m., for around 4–6 hours a day, depending on the side tasks. If there is more to do, you help a bit longer; if not, you have more free time. You always have enough time during the day to relax, explore the area, or make fresh orange or apple juice. Olaf ensures that the tasks are fair and explains everything clearly, so you always know what to do. Sometimes the work can be physically demanding, but it is manageable. The atmosphere is very friendly and familiar. In the evenings, we often had nice conversations. Olaf truly cares about the people who stay with him and wants everyone to have a great experience. He is open-minded, funny, and always willing to help if you have any problems or questions. I learned a lot during my stay — not only about the work itself, but also about responsibility, English speaking, and daily life in a different environment. I would definitely recommend staying at Olaf’s place to anyone who is looking for an authentic farm experience in the rural area of Norway. I am very grateful for the time I spent there and would love to come back one day.

Boro and Peja and the community at Pecka were very welcoming, giving me a very comfortable place to stay and making delicious stews and bread. I stayed during winter so the work was very chill and in my free time I got to go for walks and rock climbing. Boro even took me to see the various nearby rivers and introduced me to his lovely family 😊 I look forward to coming back to Pecka in summer, especially during the outdoor festival!
