    Description

Hello everybody! We are a big family that 8 years ago bought, together with several other families, a land to make our dream come true: live in harmony with nature and with each other, and create a little paradise to raise up our children. These years we have been creating spaces - by now almost each family has built their house to live, and we even built the "homeschooling" school of our little village.
The quinta where we live together is a very special place: it is big and wild, has an incredibly beautiful river, pure air and water, and is surrounded by only more wild nature. We are totally off-the-grid: our water comes from a nearby spring, we use only renewable energies as a source of electricity, and we have compost toilets.
Oraibi, a part of the whole community, works like this: We are a big family with small children, trying to educate them, build a bigger house and get sustainable, everything at the same time :) So a lot of things (and life force) going on here...

This year, with the unexpected arrival of our last baby, it has come evident that we need more space to live, so finally, after a couple of years of going around the idea, we are building a bigger house!
Of course, this will take some time... we estimate that we will be open for volunteers until mid October.

Update: Right now we are searching for carpenters or people with some skills in wood working, since very soon we will start attacking the timber structure of the house. Other volunteers (without wood knowledge) are welcome, but only from mid August. (Carpinters welcome any moment!!! :)

The jobs to attack in this moment are focused mainly in the construction (at this moment rendering straw bales, treating the timber for the structure and very soon starting with mounting the timber frame and filling up the walls with the light straw clay technique - an amazing technique to know, since just with clay, straw and water you can create thick stable walls with a high insulation rate).
We also have a small working team on the garden and in the kitchen. Gardening jobs in this moment are limited to water and do a few more things, but we don't need many volunteers there (so if you are more into learning about gardening, maybe this is not your farm right now). Since we have a very big group of volunteers, the kitchen work will involve cooking for loads of people (so somebody with experience in cooking for big groups will be really appreciated :).

Our experience with volunteers has shown that the most efficient and nicest way for everybody is to organize what we call "volunteer attacks". In those attacks, we organise a group of several volunteers for a period of time, and share work, food and time, everybody together. Until now they have always been intense and beautiful periods of sharing with people and of meeting each other. Working and living so close together, moving towards a common goal, makes a very strong binding between everybody involved. This year we will have an on-going "volunteer attack" in the summer (probably from June to October), so we decided to change the name and call it a SUMMER BUILDING PARTY ;) If you plan to come on those datas, you can expect to meet other volunteers here.

Our wish-list: We would love to have experienced volunteers in any of those fields - experience in fundaments lying, carpentry knowledge (if you can make joints in a wooden frame structure would be fantastic!!), being able to work with power tools, experience in gardening or experience in cooking for big groups. Wow, that is a big wish-list ;) But, we need to say, the most important thing we search in volunteers is good energy, a kind heart, and a strong will to help move forward whatever project is going on. Experienced volunteers are of course always welcome (and appreciated!), but sometimes, even if a person doesn't have much experience, they can do a great job by really wanting to do his/her best and putting lot of motivation, interest and love in whatever task at hand. So, if you have the motivation and the will, if you are interested in meeting alternative ways of living, seeing an eco-village from the inside and spending your free time in amazing nature, this could be very much your place! :)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You will experience how is the life of an almost sustainable family (off-the-grid, eating from the garden, surrounded by beautiful nature), and the magnificence of creating things with your own hands. You will learn about natural building - how to build a big family house (fundaments, wooden structure, straw-clay walls) just using your hands .

    Help

Right now, we basically need very motivated volunteers that want to give a hand with making the garden ready and preparing the fundaments of the house-to-be, so our "summer building party" can take place... and of course, also giving a hand with any other funny ideas that might arise in the moment (we are quite "creative" sometimes), like building a rocket mass heater or taking a caravan out of a house - two thought-in-the-moment ideas that came last year on an inspired moment ;)

    Accommodation

Right now we can offer accommodation in a caravan and in an old, quite amusing, camper van. We also have a tent where we can host people, and a big tipi that we are planning to mount for the summer.
We have a summer kitchen that will be used as a common kitchen, where we will share (vegetarian) meals together.
