We are an active family of four: Ryan, stay at home dad and property/family manager extraordinaire, Meghann, workaholic nurse mom, Margaret, 8 year old biking/horse lover, and Benji, 5 year old lego and heavy equipment aficionado. We are living on a busy rural property at the edge of Haines Junction, Yukon Territory, home of the amazing Kluane National Park and Reserve.
We have a retired sled dog kennel of around ten old dogs, a cat, and sometimes chickens or pigs. This coming summer, we plan to have another huge garden and greenhouse. We also have another property to maintain and clean up with a life time's worth of puttering to do!
We live close to a swimming lake in the summer and right on an amazing trail network for biking, hiking, and dog walking. There are countless opportunities for recreation, all in the stunning beauty of the St. Elias mountains.
We love to share our property with people who like to work and play as hard as we do. Hosting workawayers has been an amazingly enriching experience for our family...like travelling without leaving the house! We have learned so much from our new friends and know that these will be memories and connections to go on in our hearts forever!
During the pandemic, we are able and willing to potentially host people who are already in the Yukon and have completed the mandatory 14 day isolation period. We would request that people ensure that they are healthy before coming and we will ensure that we are too, before having anyone come. We also request that you are part of our family 'bubble' while staying here in an attempt to try to decrease risk for everyone. With Meghann being a health care provider, it is especially important that we are all aware of potential risks of viral illness in our community. Your safety is very important to us, and so is the safety of our family and small town. The adults in our family will be fully vaccinated by March.
DIY and building projects
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
We will be your connection with the local community, letting you know great places to go, people to see, and regaling you with incredible hunting/adventure stories. We can't work all day when there is 22 hours of sunlight, so we may take you out recreating when it's time for a break.
We would love help with everything from housekeeping and building to animal care. There is a daily chore list for the home that guides the flow of work. We will try to ensure you will be working with someone, to make it more productive and fun but sometimes we need to attend to the daily grind of family life and really love a workawayer that is helpful and motivated!
We have a million little projects, including fixing vehicles, wood working, painting, and there is always firewood to process! We have a large, immaculately kept workshop that loves to be used to its full potential. There are really endless possibilities for projects and things to do.
This winter will be more about restoring the hull on a 7.9 m S2 sailboat as well as some potential for home renovations. People who are interested in this kind of work are especially welcome!

We have a two private bedrooms, one upstairs and one in the basement. You will have a private bathroom, including bathtub/shower and access to shared laundry. We have a communal kitchen and share meals depending on how the day is going and what everyone is up to. Generally, everyone does breakfast independently, but we try to sit down together for lunch and dinner. We love to cook and many meals are based on the food we grow and harvest. We are regular meat eaters (chicken raised on the farm, bison hunted in the woods) but can accommodate vegetarians who aren't too fussy.
We aren't big drinkers but do enjoy a beer every now and then. You would be responsible for your own snacks, alcohol, and specialty foods. We have internet but it is limited, so HD streaming is not really possible but if we all turn down the quality of youtube, it should be fine for the month.
We live on a beautiful hobby farm with countless opportunities for hiking, biking, paddling, and more! There is always loads to do, even if it's just hanging out petting Duke, the friendliest dog in the kennel, while taking in the views of the beautiful Auriol range. Haines Junction is a 90 minute drive from Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. Some transportation may be available, depending on need and timing.
We try to spend as much time together, outside, as possible. We are very open and value direct, honest communication. We understand that people need downtime to recharge and refresh and are able to identify when we need time as well.
Although we have a bunch of animals and kids, we work to keep the house and property in order as we find that a tidy house is important for our sanity. We really appreciate workawayers who are self directed and jump in to help wherever they see a need or an opportunity.
We genuinely love to meet new people and make new friends! We are excited to welcome like minded people who are excited to check out Haines Junction into our home!
