    Description

Hi! I’m Miguel, and I live in Portimão, south of Portugal. In a character-filled home just 8 minutes from some of Europe’s most stunning beaches and award-winning coastal trails.

I live with two small rescued dogs and a very special blind cat, all full of personality and affection. They’re an important part of the household, so it’s essential that you truly enjoy being around animals and helping to care for them when needed.

I’m often in need of someone to give a hand with basic cleaning, small tasks or pet care and I’m always happy to hear from responsible, kind people who value peace, nature, and a slower rhythm of life.

The beach is about 8 minutes away by car (or a 30 minute walk). The house is right in the town center, close to cafés, shops, supermarkets, and public transport. The surrounding area is full of beautiful trails, perfect for long hiking, water activities and peaceful moments in nature.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Staying at my home is more than just house-sitting or helping me doing some shores. It’s a chance to experience a slice of life in the Algarve. I live a quiet life, enjoying nature, hiking, kayaking, experiencing a healthy lifestyle and the local surroundings and I love sharing this slower, peaceful pace with others.

    Workawayers can:

    - Experience daily life in a traditional Algarvean home and learn about local customs, food, and the region’s natural beauty.
    - Explore the stunning nearby beaches, caves and hiking trails, with tips from a local who knows the best spots.
    - Connect with the local community if you’re interested. Small town markets, nature walks and local events (when available).

In return, I love learning from the people I host. Their culture, stories, skills, language and perspectives. Whether it’s language, cooking, crafts, or just sharing experiences from around the world, hosting is a way for both sides to grow and connect.

I speak Portuguese and English and I’m currently learning French. I’d love to practice French together in a friendly, casual way.

    Help

I’m looking for someone to help take care of the house while I’m away and also contribute to small creative or practical projects around the home.

If you have skills in any decorating, drywall, or general handy work, that’s a big plus. I’d especially love help starting a vertical garden on my terrace, or any ideas to make the space more comfortable, sustainable, and inspiring.

Even if you don’t have these specific skills, someone reliable, tidy, and mindful is perfect. And ideally you can also help keep the house clean and sometimes cook simple meals. Extra points if you enjoy slow, conscious living and want to leave the place a little better than you found it.
