Description
Hey! I’m Miguel, born in Portugal, in my thirties, splitting my time between Lisbon and the Algarve.
Whenever I can, I escape back to Portimão: sunny weather, beach days, coastal trails… it’s where I feel most alive.
I live in a traditional Algarve house right in the centre of town, with cafés, markets and the river within walking distance. The beach is just an 8 minute drive away and this region is full of breath taking spots, cliffs, caves and trails that are impossible not to fall in love with.
I’m pretty relaxed, social and easy-going. I love nature, animals, photography, books, kayaking, cooking vegetarian meals, road trips, renovating old spaces and anything creative and outdoorsy. I love meeting people from different cultures, sharing ideas and having good conversations.
If you enjoy a friendly home, a chilled atmosphere and spending time with animals while helping with small projects, you’ll feel really comfortable here. Being immersed in nature is something I truly value: hiking, exploring trails and spending time outdoors play a big role in my life.
Looking ahead to 2026, I have a few personal projects and travel ideas that really excite me. One of them is getting an electric bicycle and slowly exploring Portugal, favouring small roads, countryside paths and human scale travel over rushing from place to place.
Separately from hosting, I’m also planning two leisure trips during the year, one is Sardinia and the other possibly Disneyland Paris, around June or August. These trips are about enjoying, disconnecting and experiencing somewhere new (not work exchanges). I usually travel at a slow rhythm and sharing part of the journey with the right kind of company can make the experience more meaningful.
Throughout 2026, I’ll alternate between periods of hosting here and periods of travelling. These are clearly separate phases. When I host, I’m fully present and involved in daily life at the house. When I travel, the house is closed to hosting.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying here is relaxed and friendly. The kind of place where you can enjoy the Algarve at your own rhythm.
Here, you can enjoy:
• sunrise or sunset walks along the cliffs;
• discovering beautiful beaches and quiet spots;
• cooking together now and then;
• sharing music, books, ideas and travel stories;
• learning Portuguese expressions;
• exploring the coast, caves, viewpoints and little villages;
• slow evenings with the dogs, reading or relaxing.
I’m happy to show you my favourite places, recommend local gems and help you experience a more authentic side of the Algarve, not just the tourist version.
Help
I host people who enjoy helping around the home in a simple, practical way. Nothing heavy or stressful, just hands-on tasks with a positive attitude.
Tasks can include:
• giving attention, walks and care to my two rescue senior dogs and my cat;
• feeding them and keeping an eye on them;
• some house tasks (cleaning, sweeping, general upkeep);
• helping me declutter and organise the garage;
• small DIY or renovation projects (arts and crafts, painting walls, sanding wood, moving furniture...).
I appreciate people who are independent, clean, respectful and comfortable living with animals.
If you have experience in carpentry, painting, DIY or creative renovation, that’s a big plus! I love learning new techniques and working as a team on small improvements to the house.
