Description
I am an English teacher based in Colombia, and I have a project focused mainly on teaching English to students online and in person. I enjoy creating practical, friendly, and engaging learning experiences that help students feel more confident using English in real-life situations.
I would like to invite English speakers to help with this project by interacting with students, practicing conversation, sharing aspects of their culture, and giving learners the opportunity to communicate with different English speakers.
My goal is to create a positive cultural and language exchange where students can improve their English while Workawayers can also learn more about Colombian culture, education, and daily life. I am especially interested in people who are patient, friendly, responsible, and happy to communicate with learners of different ages and English levels. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Travellers will have the opportunity to experience Colombian culture in a personal and meaningful way while taking part in both language and outdoor activities. Through daily interaction, they can learn more about local customs, food, traditions, family life, education, and everyday life in Colombia.
They will also be able to practise Spanish in real situations and, if they wish, attend the four Spanish classes I schedule each week. This gives them the chance to improve their communication skills while using the language naturally outside the classroom.
By helping with English conversation and educational activities, travellers can also learn about the Colombian education system and gain experience interacting with students from different ages and backgrounds. Those who enjoy nature will be able to learn more about gardening, planting, composting, fruit trees, and caring for a vegetable garden in our local environment.
Above all, the exchange is intended to be mutual. Travellers can share their language, culture, experiences, and ideas while also learning from Colombian people, our way of life, and the local community. -

Help
Besides helping with English language practice, I am also looking for travellers who enjoy nature, gardening, and spending time outdoors. The help we need may include tasks such as planting, weeding, pruning, watering, composting, and keeping the garden areas clean, organised, and healthy. Depending on the season and current needs, there may also be small outdoor projects, such as creating garden paths, preparing planting beds, maintaining fruit trees, or taking care of our vegetable garden.
These activities can be combined with English-language assignments and conversation practice, so participants can contribute both to the educational side of the project and to the outdoor work. I like the idea of creating a varied experience where Workawayers can spend some time helping with students and language activities and some time working in a natural environment.
I also schedule four Spanish classes per week for Workaway participants who would like to improve their Spanish. These classes are designed to help them develop their communicative skills and feel more confident using Spanish in everyday situations. Participation in the Spanish classes is optional, but they are available as an additional part of the cultural and language exchange experience. -

Room and board. Three meals a day Monday during the week. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are off for the volunteer to travel and visit cities and natural attractions, cultural events, etc.

In their free time, helpers can enjoy the peaceful surroundings, go for walks along the mountain trails, visit nearby rivers, or simply relax with a book in the garden. The area is perfect for anyone who loves nature, birdwatching, photography, or quiet reflection.
I provide both urban and rural accomodation from where you can explore cafés, museums, cultural events, and the vibrant atmosphere of a university city. Nearby attractions include coffee farms, hot springs, natural reserves, and viewpoints with stunning Andean landscapes.
Local buses run regularly to and from Manizales, and we can help with guidance on transportation, places to visit, and activities to try. On weekends, travellers often enjoy visiting the Nevado del Ruiz area, exploring local markets, or joining small community activities in the surrounding countryside.
Overall, this is a calm and beautiful place where you can balance meaningful work with plenty of opportunities to explore and enjoy the region. -

This was a great experience and is recommended to anyone who has interest in teaching. Everyone at the office was helpful, and I made some friends I will be returning to see in the new year. It was a fun place to gain skills and get familiar with the classroom setting.

Having Aiden here in manizales with the family was a complete success. He gets along extremely well with every one, he´s got a great sense of humor, and he learns quickly. He helped us a lot with translation work and as a teaching assistant. He knows he´s got a place here with us whenever he wants to come back to Manizales.

We had Maja for there weeks helping our students with conversational practice in English. Our students immediately felt motivated to study with Maja due to her jovial and exciting way to interact with them. She was always well prepared for class and did an outstanding job. We all miss her already.
