    Description

We are two friends from México City who recently opened a Hostel + Café here in Mérida. Besides us (Alfonso and Eduardo) there is Raúl, our fantastic chef (also from Mexico City) and Manuel, who does the deep cleaning a couple times a week. The place is pretty big and at the same time very relaxed and mostly quiet, just like Mérida. At this point, we only have one dorm with 12 beds but we have many plans for the hostel and are constantly trying to expand and intigrate new ideas and acitivies. The best part about the hostel being this small and new, is that we get to know every guest, form strong connections, and become a little family with new people every week. There´s a lot of socializing happening here, so if you are a people-person, you will have a wonderful time with us!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Mérida has a lot to offer culturally as the capital of the Yucatán region. It has a deeply Mayan rooted heritage, which they embrace strongly. You will have many opportunties to go around Yucatán on your days off to learn more about the Mayan culture and see the magic towns (Pueblo Mágico) or the Cenotes which are all around Mérida and very easy to reach.
Also, you will have the chance to practice your spanish with three native speakers and learn about how to run a Hostel, cook typical mexican dishes with our chef. But most importantly, you will be part of our little family away from home!

    Help

We just had our first volunteer, and she basically gave us the idea of working with volunteers to help out with making beds and cleaning, but also running activities for the guests and making them feel at home. So, we are looking for someone who can do a bit of everything, especially since we both have other jobs and may sometimes need to be in meetings or might be otherwise occupied.
The work is fairly easy. You would work 5 days a week 5 hours a day ,during the afternoon, making beds, sweeping, checking the bathrooms and cleaning them if necessary, and helping with check-ins ( helping with preparing or serving either food or drinks to paying customers is not part of the activities needed). In the evening, you would run an activity for the guests or facilitate some kind of socializing, depending on the number and type of guests we have at the time.
In exchange, you will be provided with a bed in the dorm, breakfast and lunch prepared by Raúl and snack im the affternoon, two days free for yourself, as well as the opportunity to practice your Spanish with us, if you are learning.
