    Description

Located in the forested mountains of the Pyrénées Orientales, we are an international Buddhist center, with community members from around the world. We are all interested in Tibetan Buddhism and spiritual practice. Our international non-profit retreat centre is surrounded by breathtaking nature and vast views. With the sacred Catalonian mountain 'Pic du Canigou' as a backdrop and the Mediterranean in the distance, our centre offers a remote, serene environment ideal for introspection.

We are a non-profit community run entirely by volunteers who share a wish to study and practice meditation in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition with the goal of becoming a more compassionate and wise human being. We are happy to have workawayers who have the same joy for helping and caring for people and place as we have and who are not simply looking for "food and shelter", but who want to become part of our community team during their stay.

Volunteers here experience a unique lifestyle of "peace in action." You will live as an equal member of our community, participating in our daily rhythm of meditation and shared meals.

    What you can learn:

Meditation & Philosophy: You are welcome to join our twice-daily group meditation sessions. Our resident Lama is often available to answer questions about philosophy or mindfulness.

Knowledge Exchange: We don't just want you to help; we want to learn from you! Whether it's a new cooking recipe from your home country or a specific gardening technique, we value the skills you bring.

Nature Immersion: This is a perfect place for those who love hiking, biking, and solitude.

We interact closely with our volunteers, eating together and engaging in daily discussions about mindfulness and community living. We hope to gain a broader understanding of the world through your eyes, while sharing the ancient traditions of Tibetan Buddhism with you.

  • Help

    Help

We are a non-profit community and we need help with the many things that come with running a large house and gardens. We are currently looking for people who enjoy:

Organic Gardening: Help with weeding, planting, watering, and maintaining our beautiful grounds.

Communal Housekeeping: A passion for cleaning, tidying, and preparing shared spaces for our community members.

Handy & Creative Tasks: We always welcome "handy" people! This includes light maintenance, small repairs, or sharing traditional handcraft skills (like wood or stone) to help preserve our historic building.

Vegetarian Cooking: Helping in our communal kitchen to prepare wholesome meals for the residents.

It is a fully non-profit association. All activities are aimed at community members who share a genuine interest in Tibetan Buddhism, and there are no commercial paying guests. Therefore, help is strictly for our non-profit mission and communal areas; Workawayers will not be helping with any paying guests, nor in any spaces designated for them.

    Accommodation

Our accommodation is simple but comfortable. We try to offer a single room or cabin, depending on availability, and otherwise offer shared rooms. During our busier summer months, you may be invited to stay in a traditional teepee or a tent to stay close to nature.

As a Buddhist community, we refrain from meat, alcohol, and intoxicants. Our kitchen is often praised for its wholesome cooking. You will find a warm, sincere atmosphere here that truly feels like home.
