    Description

Hello, I am Jenny and we recently built our zero energy home on a 10 acre site in Skibbereen, 5 acres of which is native forest with a river running through the whole site. I am married to Patrick and we have one 10 year old boy and 1 energetic and very friendly labradoodle.

Our site is 2.5km outside Skibbereen. It is possible to walk or cycle, but having your own vehicle would be best, especially for exploring the beautiful area and getting to the nearby coast, beaches and neighbouring towns and villages.

Summertime in the area is full of festivals and events for you to join- especially at weekends. We would very much encourage you to attend any events of interest. We are both architects and besides our conventional work, we are are working on eco projects to open up our beautiful forest to future users, such as creating a natural organic swimming pool, solar powered sauna, and spaces for forest bathing, tai chi, yoga etc. We are open to ideas too! We have a lot of associated landscaping works we need help with as well such as creating hedging screens, pathways, and raised beds for vegetable crops. We will work together on these jobs and sharing skills- hopefully we can learn lots from each other!

I have over 10 years teaching English to Chinese students from our time spent in Hong Kong. We are open to host Workawayers that speak any language, as long as there is a basic level of English.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a 3 bedroom static mobile home with power, flushing toilet and hot water which would be your own private accomodation, located 100m from the main house. It has 1 double bed and 1 single bed (The third bedroom could take a floor mattress if required). We can provide bedding and towels as well. This would suit a single Workawayer, a couple or small family. It has a small fridge and basic cooking facilities such as toaster, kettle, microwave, rice cooker and outdoor camping stove. There is a large covered outdoor deck so you can enjoy being outdoors even in the rain.

Volunteering work would be 5 hours, 5 days a week (we are flexibile when those are). We can supply ingredients for your meals should you prefer your own space to eat, but you are also welcome to join us for a home cooked meal in the evening =)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a lot to explore within 20 minutes drive of our place (or an hour's cycle). There are local bus link to take you to neighbouring towns such as Ballydehob, Baltimore, Schull, Clonakility. Though my husband's family have been here for over 3 generations, we have only recently moved back to build our house on the family farm. We are therefore still exploring the area and always finding new places, and interesting festivals and events to attend. We will invite you along or at least let you know of any interesting social events going on in the area, depending on your interests.
