    Description

    Our Farm:
We own and operate a small Macadamia Nut farm in Yandina. We are making every effort to be organic, environmental and sustainable, so we are using natural means of soil fertility and remineralisation practices.

We have 7 acres of rainforest and 1 km of creek, so there are many nice spots for relaxing and enjoying nature and watching the abundant wild life.

You will get an Australian farm experience without having to be remote. We are close to the beach but secluded enough to feel far away from the city.

    Work:
Come April we need help with our harvest. This year we are planning to do a manual harvest, which means we pick up nuts with a small hand held machine like a carpet sweeper. We also need help get the vegetable gardens growing, plant fruit trees and increase the size of the chicken runs. There is also lantana to remove along the creeks. Depending on our arrangement as to how much work is required.

    1 hour per day:
You supply your own van, and do your own meals.

    3 hours per day:
You supply your own van, we supply meals.

    5 hours per day:
We supply accommodation. All meals supplied. You make breakfast and lunch yourself. If you like cooking, help is appreciated for the evening meal. If you love cooking, you can take charge! Vegetarian can be accommodated, but we eat meat.

    Animals/Wildlife
We have chickens, ducks, aviary birds and a house cat. Aiming for dairy goats, but need to build accommodation for them. We have several native bee hives for pollination. And currently have 40+ European bee hives brought in to take advantage of the macadamia trees in flower. Recently we have put several nesting boxes for owls to encourage them to the farm, being natural predators for vermin. There are many birds, from small finches and honeyeaters to large parrots. Plenty of kangaroos in the paddocks and an occasional wallaby. There are goannas and lace monitors.

    Accommodation:
The volunteer's room is a detached cabin not far from the house. There is a fire pit and outside table setting, and kangaroos greet you most mornings.
If you have your own van, we have the most beautiful rainforest setting.
