    Description

    We’re a couple living in the beautiful Picton region, on the outskirts of Sydney. We have two hobby farm properties and share our lives with dogs, puppies, ponies and chickens.

    We love the peace and purpose that comes with farm life and enjoy welcoming others to share in it. Whether it’s helping with animals, gardening or general property care; we’re always grateful for an extra pair of hands and am happy to share our homes, fruit trees and vegetable garden, fresh air and some local knowledge in return.

    We are not a business, we are just a small hobby farm.

    Our main property is 40 acres and has numerous Kangaroo visitors on a daily basis. Our second property is 6 acres and is closer to the township.

    We are 60-90 mins drive to Sydney, but in a quiet rural area. There is easy train access to Sydney.

    If you enjoy animals, nature, and a hands on lifestyle, we’d love to hear from you!

    Our experience is suitable for people who love their own company and space, and don't want to be living closely with their hosts. You will have your own space and prepare your own meals, and we won’t always be working alongside you day to day. You may be at the house by yourself for most or some of your stay, or we may be there at times.

    We provide a thorough tour and induction when you arrive, help you feel at home, and are in regular contact throughout your stay.

    We’re always happy to share a chat when we cross paths and chat about farm life, animal care, and how things work here. If you're interested in puppies and dogs you will learn a lot about all things canine.

    You will have a unique chance to experience rural Australia (Kangaroos included!) and observe the day to day rhythm of a working property with dogs, puppies, ponies, and chickens.

    We also welcome Workawayers to share their own knowledge or stories, and we love hearing about different cultures, lifestyles, and skills when there's an opportunity.

  • Help

    Help

    We’re looking for friendly, reliable helpers to assist with caring for our animals, general gardening and property maintenance.

    We ask for assistance 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

    Much of the day to day help involves caring for our dogs and puppies, including giving them lots of pats, love, and attention- as well as helping with ponies and chickens. We also have ongoing gardening and property upkeep.

    Day to day tasks may include:
    * Taking dogs for walks and playing with the dogs
    * Brushing dogs
    * Cleaning dog areas
    * Putting dogs to bed at night, and letting them out in the morning
    *Preparing food for dogs (we feed a raw mince diet with veggies, oats and healthy supplements, so it takes a bit of time and love to prepare).
    * Weeding gardens, sweeping leaves
    * Trimming hedges, small trees
    *General cleaning
    * Checking on ponies and horses, refilling water
    *Keeping an eye on puppies and dogs to make sure they're ok

    We love growing microgreens to add to our food and the dogs food, you may assist with this.

    We have an abundance of fruit trees on the larger property, with something fruiting at any time of the year. You might assist with tending to the trees.

    If you love veggie gardening we have a once loved but now wild veggie patch that would love some time and attention.

    With a 40 acre property there's plenty to be done- we like to find out from you what areas you are interested in volunteering in- dogs, ponies, chickens, gardening, cleaning, repairs. We are flexible and are happy for the help.

    We are also open to working with your unique skills! Whether you have a talent for painting, photography, video production, carpentry, or something else entirely- we love hearing about your interests and finding ways to collaborate.

    Let us know what you enjoy doing, and we’ll do our best to tailor your time with us to suit your strengths.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    We have two farm properties near each other. In each, we provide a clean, comfortable and private space for our Workawayers. You’ll have your own private bedroom and bathroom, complete with a queen sized bed, wardrobe, and all linen and towels provided.
    There's a fireplace, and while there is aircon we rarely need to use it.

    You’ll also have access to full kitchen facilities to prepare your own meals, with plenty of space to cook. And a full laundry.

    We live between a few properties, so sometimes we may also be at the house, and other times you may have the place to yourselves. We only host one Workaway couple/small group of friends/family at a time at each property, ensuring a peaceful and secure stay.

    Unlimited high speed internet is included and the property is clean, quiet, and set in a beautiful rural location, perfect for those who enjoy nature and animals.

    We do request a minimum one month stay so that you have time to get to know the place and the animals. We are open to long term stays and have had many a Workawayer over the years who has ended up staying for 6-12 months, or ended up being offered a paid long term job with us, or come back a second or third time.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    We provide groceries weekly, but do not cook meals, so you’ll have full use of the kitchen to prepare your own food. Lauren is vegetarian, so appreciates the unique dietary needs of vegetarians and is happy to host and provide food for both vegetarians and meat eaters.

    Please note that you will need your own transport, as there is no public transport in our area. We’re happy to pick you up from Picton train station, but without a car, you’ll be based on the property for the duration of your stay.

    We ask that you do not smoke inside the house, and that you treat our home, animals, and property with respect.

    We require a minimum stay of 1 month so we can take the time to show you the tasks properly and allow you to build trust and familiarity with the animals.

    Please note: we are not located in a second year visa eligible area.
