    Description

Hi, we are Natalie and Adam!

We are world travelers and after many far flung trips we have found our spot in Playa Gigante. Having decided we want something different in life we drove overland crossing America coast to coast and then down through Central America. We have taken over a hotel after falling in love with this magical land.

Natalie: Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I am a Reiki master teacher, yoga teacher and holistic intuitive therapist. We plan to run healing workshops and yoga retreats in the near future.

Adam: I’m super excited for our amazing project, ideas are flowing and we cannot wait to put our playful touch to this existing hotel. Originally from the UK, I have a background in hospitality and am looking forward to getting stuck in, creating a vibrant place for people to enjoy our space!

The hotel has 8 rooms spread out on an ocean view knoll just 400 meters east of the Playa Gigante beachfront and about a 10 minute walk down to the beach. The 2.75 acre property includes four buildings totaling 6000sf, giving us plenty space for expansion, growth and creation.

The focal points of the business are the hotel, restaurant, the vegetable garden, yoga and healing. We have lots of great spaces, some which need attention. We also have an amazing ocean view from our pool area, restaurant and bar.

Playa Gigante is a renowned surf spot and we're in prime surf season! The waves are big, the beach is beautiful and the sunsets are spectacular.

We are looking for volunteers who are eager to work with us and help us to transform this magical space. All suggestions and ideas are welcome! We have the energy and love to do some amazing things and look forward to working with people who hold the same excitement for our project!

We look forward to hearing from you!

    Natalie and Adam

Our volunteers work along side our full-time Nicaraguan employees, conversing in Spanish, and providing mutual support. Playa Gigante is a small, friendly community providing plenty opportunity to meet and chat with the locals. There is a Spanish school in town to get your daily dose of the lingo.

Volunteers will help under the hotel ownership and management on a number of different tasks and projects, depending on expertise and need. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and to help for 25 hours per week, typically spread over 5 days (for example five weekly shifts of 5 hours each).

All volunteer positions are conditional and contingent on a "good fit" for both parties. Should you be offered a position with us, please know that the first week or two give both you and us a chance to assess the viability of the longer-term arrangement. Despite this two-week trial period, we are ideally looking for people who are planning to settle in for at least 2 months. If you cannot commit to the minimum 6 weeks, we likely will not open to hosting you.

The volunteers will stay in one of the "volunteer" rooms at the hotel, which can accommodate up to four volunteers each, but will typically have fewer. Please know that there are fans, but no A/C in the volunteer rooms. We have only one room that is a private room for a workaway couple so typically we host no more than one couple at a time. If you have a "couple" account, but are just friends who can share a room with other volunteers, please let us know that up front. The two volunteer rooms have a single shared bathroom.

We offer breakfast on the days that you work, and have a 20% discount on any additional food and drinks at the on-site restaurant.

There is also a communal kitchen adjoining the volunteer quarters where you can prepare your own meals and store food.

    What else ...

The beaches are the big draw in Playa Gigante and along the "Emerald Coast" of Nicaragua in general. Surfing tourism plays a major role in the local economy with several world-class surfing locations along our little stretch of coast. From the hotel, one may walk to several beaches - Playa Gigante (10 minutes), Playa Amarillo (15 minutes), and the world-class barreling beach break at Playa Colorado (45 minutes).

If you are an experienced surfer looking to get a taste of our high-quality waves, you should plan to come during the surf season between March and September. Please know that if you come from December-February, the waves are typically smaller during that time.

The village of Playa Gigante has approximately 400 residents plus several hostels, restaurants, and bars. Playa Amarillo is stunningly beautiful and remains completely undeveloped.

We live in a sleepy fishing village. There is not much to do except surf, swim, read a book or lie in a hammock. So if you need more stimulation, and a city vibe... then Playa Gigante won't be your vibe. However if you are chilled and like a hammock - you are coming to the right place!
