    Description

We are a family of four (and three small dogs) who bought an off-grid home in 2022 in the beautiful Costa Blanca region. We are Adri and Bo and we have two young children, our daughter Mara from 2022 and our son Luca from 2025. Our house is located in the mountains, surrounded by nature and close to wonderful hiking and cycling routes.

From our home, you can enjoy beautiful sea, valley and mountain views. There are also two local restaurants within walking distance, where you can enjoy typical Spanish food.

We live off-grid, with solar power, batteries, a wind turbine and a generator as backup further we have a water deposit in our house.

There is always plenty to do around the property. At the moment, we are mainly looking for help with painting, preparing walls, sanding, masking, small construction projects, general maintenance and gardening. We would especially appreciate someone who enjoys practical work, works carefully and has some experience with painting or DIY projects. We enjoy welcoming people who would like to be part of family life during their stay. It would be lovely if you enjoy spending time with children and dogs too — for example, joining us for a walk, playing with the children, or occasionally helping with the dogs. This is never a requirement or a replacement for childcare; it is simply about sharing everyday life and enjoying each other’s company.

We can offer a room in our home, and there is also space for a campervan or caravan. By arrangement, you can use a separate living room and kitchen area, located away from our family’s private floor. This gives you space to relax, cook and enjoy some privacy during your stay, while we also maintain our family’s private living area. By arrangement, we will provide ingredients for three meals per day, so you can prepare your own meals in the apartment. From time to time, and by arrangement, you are also welcome to join us for shared family meals, depending on everyone’s plans and preferences. We are happy to discuss dietary requirements, allergies and food preferences before arrival.

We usually ask for around 20 hours of help per week, spread over around 5 days, with 2 full days off each week. The exact daily schedule is flexible and will always be agreed together in advance, depending on the work that needs doing, the weather and everyone’s plans.

Some days may involve a few more hours of help and other days less, but we aim to keep the arrangement fair and balanced. We want our helpers to have enough time to relax, enjoy the mountains, go hiking or cycling, visit the beach and explore the Costa Blanca.

A car is recommended because we live in the mountains and public transport is limited. However, depending on our plans and availability, you may be able to join us for trips to the village, shops or nearby places. In some cases, use of a car may be possible by prior arrangement.

We are happy to welcome practical, respectful and independent people who enjoy nature, simple living and helping with hands-on projects.

Please get in touch if you would like to stay with us and experience mountain life in the Costa Blanca. Tell us a little about yourself, your available dates and any relevant experience with painting, gardening, maintenance or DIY.

We look forward to hearing from you!

    Saludos,
    Bo and family

Staying with us offers the chance to experience everyday life in a Spanish mountain area, surrounded by nature, sea, valley and mountain views. Our home is an off-grid family home, so travellers can see what it is like to live more independently and sustainably, using solar power, batteries, a wind turbine and a generator for backup.

Our location is ideal for people who enjoy hiking, cycling and being outdoors. There are beautiful hiking and cycling routes directly from the house, including routes often used by cyclists travelling between the Alicante and Valencia regions. The coast and beaches are around 30–45 minutes away by car, and there are two local restaurants within walking distance where you can enjoy typical Spanish food.

Travellers can also learn from practical home and garden projects, such as painting, maintenance, gardening and small DIY jobs. We are a Dutch family living in Spain, so we are happy to share our experience of family life in the Costa Blanca, local customs and daily life in a rural Spanish community.

We have Wi-Fi, so you can stay connected during your time with us. We live close to Font de Bèrnia, in a peaceful mountain area surrounded by beautiful nature, hiking trails and cycling routes.

In your free time, you can go hiking or cycling directly from the house, enjoy the mountain views, visit local restaurants within walking distance, or explore the nearby Costa Blanca coast and beaches. The beach is approximately 30–45 minutes away by car. The famous Forat de Bèrnia hiking route, with its natural tunnel and impressive views over the mountains and Mediterranean, is also nearby.

You will have your own private apartment within our home, with a separate living room and kitchen. You can enjoy your own space, but you are also welcome to join family life from time to time — for example by sharing a meal, joining a walk with the dogs or doing activities with the children.
