    Description

We are a couple in our fourties, living in a middle sized town in Germany. We both love travelling, and I myself (Jenny) was a workawayer in Australia many years ago. Now that we have a guest room, we would like to "give back" and welcome interested people to exchange culture, language practise and stories. We both speak English, and also Japanese to some extend as we both spent some time in Japan while in university and are happy for opportunities to get a bit of practise. We just joined the community as hosts and are looking forward to gathering so many new experiences!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Although we are living in a bit of a quiet place, bigger sized cities like Wuppertal, Hagen and Dortmund can be reached in ca. 30 -45 minutes by public transport. The city of Düsseldorf can be reached in ca 45 Minuten. In all of those places you can find plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, sports and cultural activities.
If you are interested, we are happy to include you into our daily and social life, introduce you to friends and make time to show you around and take you to places. Happy to practise English with you anytime and German if interested. Dennis is very much into music and plays the drums, so if you have a musical background, there might be plenty to share.

  • Help

    Help

We would need some help around the house and garden depending on the season. In spring, summer and autumn, there is always something to do around the garden. If you have experience in gardening, we are happy to learn and hear about new ideas and projects. Otherwise we are happy for some help inside the house, just some basic cleaning, cat minding and if you like cooking, we would be very happy about your input. We would love to learn about dishes from your home region! I also constantly engage in several hands on projects, so if you are more on the creative side, I am happy for support here. For example I currently have plans to upcycle old garden furniture that we inherited when we bought the house.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A single bedroom, furnished with desk and several storage options.
We live in a house with two floors, main bath on the main floor and a guest toilet on the first floor. We have a garden, wintergarden and terrace.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We have a cat living partly inside the house, so cat-friendly people are appreciated.
Getting around: It is possible to use public transport from a near bus station, but we are also happy giving lifts whenver needed. Our neighboorhood is a quiet and very friendly one. We are close to nature with forest and open fields around the corner. A walk to the small city center takes about 10-15 minutes (hill down... and back up again :) ), but most shops, especially supermarkets, are easier reached by car.
My husband and I are working fulltime, but are doing homeoffice about three times a week. We have some flexibility and can take time off here and there, being able to make plans with you.
During winter it is a bit more quiet around here, especially as we occasionally get a lot of snow here. During those times it can be a bit difficult getting around by public transport, so life might feel a bit secluded here. If you love nature an peace on the other hand, this might be attractive for you.

    Lucy

Lucy is a very social and friendly cat towards humans. Not so much to other cats... she bullies the whole neighborhood of cats and fiercly chases every cat away that dares enter our premises. But towards humans, she is all love and cuddles.
