    Description

Hi, I’m Heike (58), and I live on the outskirts of Cologne, Germany, with my "children," Theresa (22) and Adrian (20). Since they are both university students, they are only home part of the time. We also share our home with Luke, our cat; he loves roaming through the gardens outside but also enjoys retreating indoors to chill. We live in an end-of-terrace house with a garden and a pond, situated in a quiet residential area surrounded by nature.
At the same time, the city is easily accessible, allowing you to perfectly combine nature and city life.
Music is part of our lives, too; you have the opportunity to play the electric piano or the accordion.
When I’m not working, I like spending my free time outdoors (gardening, hiking) or meeting up with friends—often in Cologne’s "Südstadt" district, which has lovely cafés and restaurants—and enjoying the city’s cultural offerings (concerts, museums).
In the garden, you can read or chill on a lounger or in the hammock while letting your gaze wander across various shades of green. Right now, in the summer, the view from the garden looks out onto an idyllic natural meadow surrounded by trees.
If you want to enjoy city life, Cologne offers a vibrant, diverse cultural scene—including a World Heritage Site: Cologne Cathedral!
I look forward to a cultural exchange and to getting to know you.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I invite you to meet my family, friends, and neighbors. I enjoy cooking on weekends and always welcome company while eating. Possible activities we could do together:
Discovering new dishes while cooking together.
Brushing up on language skills—I speak some English and a little French. I can help you deepen your German skills through conversation.
Hiking in the area and exploring local towns and cities (museums, shops, concerts, cinema, bars, and restaurants...).

  • Help

    Help

I would appreciate help and support with tasks around the house and garden, and potentially some cat-sitting as well. Possible tasks include painting garden furniture or the garden shed, mowing the lawn, and painting window frames or the wooden deck—though certainly not all at once! ;-) During the day, you would be alone in the house with the cat; I am usually home from the afternoon onwards, as well as on weekends. I can assist you with some of the projects during my free time, while other tasks are meant to be done solo—though I would be available by phone if you have any questions.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Two rooms are available; availability depends on the dates—specifically, whether both rooms are free or if one is occupied by Theresa or Adrian.

One room is on the first floor and is furnished with a shelving unit, a clothes rail, a desk, a bed (140 cm), and a TV.
It has a window overlooking the garden.

The second room is in the basement and features a window that lets in natural light. Although there is less direct daylight, the room is equipped with a daylight-spectrum ceiling light.
This is the quietest room in the house; it is accessed directly from the hallway leading to the basement, so there is almost no background noise.
The room is furnished with two chests of drawers, a desk, a small sofa, and a bed (140 cm mattress on a slatted base).

I am happy to provide the following meals:
Breakfast: Muesli with fruit, yogurt or milk, and toast or bread with various toppings.
I have lunch at work, but you are welcome to prepare your own meals in the kitchen whenever you like.
Dinner: Sometimes I cook a light meal in the evening, or we have bread with various toppings.
Drinking water, coffee, and tea are always available.
Fresh herbs are available from the garden and the windowsill.

    What else ...

You can reach the KVB tram stop by bike in 5 minutes, and the tram ride to the city center takes about 30 minutes. It takes 15 minutes to cycle to the nearest S-Bahn station. Our neighborhood, Dellbrück, is about a 10-minute bike ride away; there, you’ll find everything you need for daily life.
We provide a roadworthy bicycle and a lock for your use.
    We also have a car.

There is plenty to explore in the region—such as Eifel National Park, the Mosel Valley, and the Bergisches Land—and cities like Düsseldorf, Aachen, and Bonn are also easily accessible.

    Ours is a non-smoking household.
On weekdays, I usually turn in and go to sleep around 10:00 PM.

We have space for one person.
