    Description

I’m Consuelo, a professional architect with training in sustainable architecture. Together with my partner Pablo, founder of Permacultura Podcast and experienced in eco-villages across Latin America, we started this dream project in the summer of 2021.
Back then, we arrived with nothing (no infrastructure, no facilities) just an open space and a big vision. With the help of four close friends, we built our first composting bathroom, marking the beginning of this journey. Since then, around 80 volunteers, including friends, travelers, and passionate learners, have joined us, helping to shape this project step by step.

Our site is located in Pilolcura, just a 5-7 minute walk from a stunning beach. Nestled in the rural beauty of the Valdivian rainforest and about 40 minutes by car from Valdivia, we’re surrounded by rivers, estuaries, hiking trails, and natural pools (perfect for nature lovers).

We’re continuing to develop our home using natural building techniques and recycled materials, and we’re always looking for like-minded people eager to learn and share in this experience.

    Teaching and Sharing:
A space for learning and promoting permaculture, those with knowledge or experience in permaculture principles are highly welcomed. Volunteers could potentially host mini-workshops or share their experiences, techniques, and insights with both the team and new volunteers.

    Cultural Exchange:
We highly value the cultural exchange aspect of hosting volunteers. Sharing stories, recipes, music, and experiences from different parts of the world can be as enriching as the construction itself. We encourage volunteers to bring a piece of their world to Casa Loma, making it a melting pot of cultures and ideas.

    Natural Building Assistance:
We're in search of enthusiastic Workawayers with a passion for sustainable living to assist us in the ongoing construction. While experience in natural building techniques and using recycled materials is a plus, it's not essential. We're more than willing to teach and guide volunteers through the process. Tasks may include preparing and mixing natural materials, assembling structures, and contributing to the overall design and functionality of our future home.

    General Assistance:
There's always a myriad of tasks around a construction site. This might involve moving materials, preparing the site for the next phase of construction, cleaning, and even assisting in the kitchen or with general camp maintenance, especially during our summer camping periods.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The accommodation is directly at the construction site, where we've established a more structured setup to support our volunteers' needs year-round. This includes a dry toilet, a kitchen area equipped with a refrigerator and cooking utensils, as well as electricity.

We provide 3 vegetarian meals a day, and while snacks are not included, there are opportunities to purchase extras in town during supply runs. Accommodation is camping-style. For those without their own gear, we have a tent and blankets available. However, please note that the tent we provide is a bit old and not highly water-resistant, but it works fine for the summer season.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are located in a stunning natural setting near Valdivia, surrounded by estuaries, rivers, hiking trails through natural reserves, parks, and natural pools. The area also offers breathtaking sea views, beach access, and charming local food spots to enjoy after a day of work.

We know transportation can be a concern, so we provide pick-up and drop-off services to and from Valdivia (bus stations) typically on weekends, when we go into town for supplies. This makes it easy to arrive and settle in comfortably.
