    Description

We are a family living on a 3 acre homestead farm in the Slocan Valley in south eastern British Columbia. We grow most of our own fruits and vegetables in our garden and we also have hens for eggs. There are a cat and a dog that live here too.

There is an abundance of recreational opportunities available nearby including swimming in the Slocan River, and biking or walking on the Slocan Valley Rail Trail. There are cafes in Winlaw to hang out at, and a popular beach on the lake in Slocan. We see wildlife on the farm daily, especially wild turkeys and deer. For those with back country experience, Valhalla Provincial Park is nearby. There are several hot springs within a couple hours drive in Ainsworth and Nakusp.

This year our main projects that volounteers will work on are growing fruits and vegetables in the garden, continuing to improve infrastructure in the garden, and the construction of a new shop. We don't expect you to have any prior skills, but we expect you to be flexible, and willing to learn and work hard.

    Accommodation

Volounteers will stay in a charming and private vintage school bus that has been converted into living quarters. There is a small kitchen with stove and sink, a table with seating, a shower with hot running water, a double bed, and an outhouse. We can provide you with fruits and vegetables from our garden, eggs from our hens, and some staple groceries. Volounteers prepare their own meals in the bus. Note there is no mobile phone reception or wifi available. Wifi is available in the cafes in Winlaw, a ten minute drive away.

    What else ...

The Greyhound bus no longer serves our region. Kootenay Rideshare () is a great option for arranging transportation here from other parts of BC or Alberta. Also, Silver City Stagelines () operates a bus service between Kelowna and Nelson/Castlegar. We can pick you up from Nelson, Castlegar, the Playmor Junction at the junction of Highway 3a and Highway 6, or other places nearby.
