Jamie was a welcoming, easygoing host. When we first arrived she wasn’t home and we really appreciated the trust put into us and the possibility to stay there anyway. She recommend us to visit a local festival and planned a multiple day kayaking trip with us even before we started working :) Jamie generally made sure for us to see different spots

However our accommodation in a very old, not very well maintained RV on the property was a disappointment. The sleeping area was super narrow, the RV was also being used as recycling storage and there was no wifi reception in there... The only bathroom and small kitchen were in Jamie’s Trailer. With her having up to 5 people sleeping over in the Trailer/Jurt and us in the RV at a time it got pretty crowded. Unfortunately the food situation was not what we hoped for either. Jamie cooked only once for us otherwise it was mostly us looking to find and cook something. There was no fresh veggies or fruit and limited options and we ended up buying our own fresh stuff or going out to eat. Which is generally fine for us but the deal was supposed to be a different one and was also communicated differently beforehand. While getting along with the situation we had to deal with a rather chaotic place which we at least didn't consider clean in any way.
Yet the work we got to do varied and Jamie made sure to offer us various options, so if we were fed up doing one thing we could continue with something else. From gardening to working on her Trailer or green house, to baking, cleaning and walking her dog, which we loved. We were allowed to take Henry pretty much any time we wanted to and he is just adorable! :)
All in all we have mixed feelings when we remember our time there but in general we wouldn't want to miss the experience, the nice places Jamie showed us and of course getting to know her and Henry.

I had a great time at Jamie's. She loves her island and it shows. She had a lot of good recommendations of what to see and useful advice. She took me kayaking, oysters harvesting, and we even got sea urcheons that we prepared and cook, it was fun ! She and her dad were also very kind to give me a ride at my arrival with the ferry early in the

Staying with Jamie was an incredible experience! She was so welcoming from the get-go and I truly felt comfortable and "at home" staying with her. She introduced me to family and friends and I truly felt like I was included in the community. Accommodations (yurt, then spare room) were basic, but they were fine by me, especially since Jamie kindly
… read more took me in last-minute. I helped with a wide variety of tasks so I was never bored, and was able to learn a lot from her. I helped her dismantle and clean the glass from sliding glass doors/windows for her greenhouse, aided her carpenter with framing, did some landscaping/gardening, dismantled a yurt, volunteered with her at the thrift store, and helped cook for catering gigs! We shared many amazing meals with local ingredients that she prepared (e.g. elk burgers, smoked salmon, chanterelles & boletes, kelp lasagna), and had lots of fun and deep conversations. In my down time, I got to check out the Haida Heritage Centre, went surfing & kayaking, foraged for mushrooms, played pool with some locals and attended concerts and events in town. I also fell in love while I was there...with her dog, Henry <3 Shoutout to the greatest dog alive! I will always think fondly on my trip, and hope to visit again someday. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Caeleigh was great to have around! She helped me out with lots of various tasks and was respectful, funny, engaging and just lovely! Although she didn't have tons of experience with the type of projects I needed help with, she was resourceful, asked questions, learnt fast and was motivated to help...and that's the best type of Workaway anyone can

Stephanie was such a delight to have around! Although her dogs were not always great at staying in the yard, they were super lovely, and her affection for them is heartwarming. They played with my little puppy Henry and introduced him to ocean swims, kayaking and they became good buddies! I loved Stephanie's conversational skills, independence,

Mara was amazing! She was always smiling, in a good mood, motivated, helped hard and was willing to learn new things and help with anything. We had a great time adventuring as well and I would recommend her to anyone as she is like a ray of sunshine!

My stay at Jamie‘s was amazing.
The work she wanted me to do was never too hard or too much. Some tasks I did by myself, others were two-peple jobs, so we worked on them together.
Jamie introduced me to her friends and family, which I am unbelievably grateful for. I met SO many awesome people of the Haida Gwaii community! Jamie really made an

She and Henry (the puppy) made my trip through Haida Gwaii unforgettable.
I am infinitely grateful that I had the opportunity to spend the time I had with Jamie.
Florian and Aurelie with their two dogs Patcho and Yuna were great to have around! They were respectful and hard working, engaging in conversation and knowledgeable about house renovations, animals, etc. Their dogs were also great and well behaved and got along with my dog. We went on beach walks together and they helped me check off so many
