Description
I’m an engineer and sailing captain passionate about the sea and marine conservation.
I’m currently restoring and operating a traditional wooden sailing boat in Barcelona, focused on cetacean watching, environmental education, and cultural maritime heritage.
The project combines:
• Traditional sailing
• Marine wildlife observation
• Public awareness about the Mediterranean ecosystem
• Wooden boat preservation
I work at sea most of the year and I’m building a small, committed crew around the project — especially people interested in marine biology and life onboard.
This is hands-on, real sea experience — not tourism.
This is a working boat, not a holiday experience — motivation and responsibility are key. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will learn:
• Traditional wooden boat sailing
• Cetacean spotting techniques in the Mediterranean
• Basics of marine interpretation with the public
• How a small eco-tourism project operates
If you are building a career around the sea or marine biology, this is hands-on experience — not classroom theory. -
Help
I’m looking for a sailor with a background (or strong interest) in marine biology to join me aboard a traditional wooden sailing boat operating in Barcelona.
Main help needed:
• Assisting with sailing maneuvers and deck operations
• Supporting cetacean watching trips (spotting, data notes, basic interpretation for guests)
• Helping with basic boat maintenance (wood care, painting, general upkeep)
Extra helpful (not mandatory):
• Knowledge of Mediterranean cetaceans / marine fauna
• Experience guiding or speaking to the public
• Photography / data collection / hydrophone interest
This is not only boat work — it’s part of an environmental and educational project. -

Accommodation
Accommodation on board the boat can be offered. But it depends on the working period, as we sail a lot and also the boat reparations are making live onboard a bit difficult. But...
You will stay in a berth inside the traditional wooden sailing vessel, moored at Port Olímpic (Barcelona).
Conditions are simple but comfortable — this is a real boat life experience, not luxury accommodation.
If you prefer, and travel with a small van, the port parking area can also be an alternative option.
Living on board requires being tidy, respectful of shared spaces, and comfortable with basic sailor conditions. -
What else ...
We operate from Port Olímpic, right in Barcelona.
In your free time you can enjoy:
• Beaches 5 min walk
• Full city access by bike / metro
• Sailing days along the Barcelona coastline
Barcelona offers unlimited cultural and social life.
This position suits proactive, sea-loving people comfortable with long hours outdoors. Not recommended if you’re only looking for casual sailing.” -

We've spent some time painting the inside of the cabin and sewing the new awnings, which was super fun.
