    Description

We are a semi-retired couple in our 60’s who have recently sold most of our farm having farmed cattle and sheep. We still have our house and about 5 acres left and this is enough to accommodate our pet sheep, pet cows, our horse, one chook, three dogs and a cat. We also have a large garden with plenty of fruit trees and a large vegie patch.

We live in a stunning part of South Gippsland at the bottom of Victoria, as far south as you can go on mainland Australia. Our town has a population of around 1000 people and has a wonderful community spirit. Nearby are the incredible natural attractions of Wilson’s Promontory. From squeaky sandy beaches to lush tree ferns in forests, from wombats, echidnas and koalas to migratory whales, there is so much to see.

If art is more your thing then there are plenty of local galleries. We are close to swimming and surf beaches too. If cycling is your go then the Great Southern Rail Trail is spectacular and runs for 72kms from Leongatha to Port Welshpool. There are many scenic sections that are easily accessible in and around Foster, Fish Creek, Meeniyan, Toora and more.
Given the size of the population, there is a very active music scene locally. We love music and are involved in a friendly group of musicians so bring your singing voice, acoustic guitar or other instrument!

We have tank water and a septic system so water can be precious. We are not vegetarian but can easily accommodate those who are. Our house is a no smoking zone and one dog and one cat share the indoors with us.

Tasks we would like help with are general gardening such as pruning of fruit trees and tidying garden beds, a general clean up of farming materials we no longer use, clean out of a shed we will repurpose, restoration of a couple of project items such as a small vintage caravan. There is a bit of fence mending, paving and light carpentry to be done along with firewood collection. If you have a special skill set just let us know, I’m sure we can think of something and creativity is encouraged!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The accommodation we have available is a double bed in your own bedroom within our small three bedroomed house. It is expected that you keep tidy and household chores such as cooking and cleaning are shared. All facilities are communal, kitchen, laundry and bathroom. Telstra phone and internet access is quite good but being in the country it isn’t always perfect. As a result, we don’t have Netflix but then who needs it when you have our views at your doorstep! Vodaphone definitely doesn’t work and Optus is sporadic despite what the coverage maps say. Your own transport would be a great advantage. There are buses to and from the area and Melbourne but not to points of interest. We are happy to drop you at or pick you up from transport depots and happy to sometimes show you around some of the local sights with our local knowledge.

A friendly dog or two would be welcome. We have farm animals so the dog would need to be under control. Unfortunately no cats because of our abundant wildlife. Our aged cat is an indoor cat.
