    Description

Hi, I'm Susana, and after many years of living off the grid in various places/projects, I decided to settle in Portugal. After six years of exploring different places in this country, I bought half a hectare of olive groves and have been living here in a van since last year.

I'm building a more self-sustainable home for myself and my loved ones, and I'm looking for help to bring this vision to life.

My idea centers around sensible permaculture, establishing a small but lush food forest, implementing strategies to improve soil fertility naturally, and in general creating a harmonious, eco-friendly living space from scratch.
I am a fan of DIY and keeping the budget low but the nails straight ;P

Over the years of participating in various projects, I have learned many things and am happy to share my knowledge while experimenting with different ideas in real life.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Plenty of opportunities to learn Portuguese ways at the local café or with my neighbours! The local people are super sweet and you will experience a tiny Portuguese village vibe that exists only here :D
There is a vibrant community in the area and lots of local festivals, markets and regular activities, like yoga classes or art workshops, nearby.

  • Help

    Help

I am looking for some help with daily tasks, from tidying up the space, cutting weeds, to - depending on the season - gardening, pruning and harvesting olives, picking material for hydrosols and making natural cosmetics.

Some projects planned for this year:

    🫒 Pruning olive trees (April),
    💩 Soil and compost building,
💩 Making more different types of composts including vermicompost,
    🛠 DIY light structures,
    💅 Signs painting :)
    🌺 Collecting material for hydrosols,
🌳 Planting trees, shrubs and mulching gardens,
🌱 Planting and weeding veggie garden,
💧 Directing water on the land,
🐓 Organizing space for the hens,
🐶 Training dogs to do their job ;)

How do you know if you are a good fit?

You are happy with the basics and want to be closer to nature, including mosquitoes and barking deer waking you up at night ;)
You are trying to live consciously, be mindful about people and animals around you.
You relate respectfully and know how to communicate your needs.
You enjoy yoga and an active lifestyle.
    You are independent ;P
    ...you adore dogs!

If you tick most of it and feel like giving it a try, you are very welcome to reach out! There is a big chance you might love it here.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Spacious bell tent, 4m by 4m and 2,5m high, with a double mattress and blankets.
There is also space for a small van/camper a bit on the side of the land.
Shared outside kitchen, shared 'living room' under the roof, simple dry compost toilet and a shower bag.
Vegan or vegetarian (sometimes I get happy eggs or a happy cheese from a friend) lunch and dinner provided - I like to cook and eat together, so it would be nice if you too :)
I have a solar electricity that charges laptops and phones during the day and a small gene in case to use for tools and anything extra.
