Hannah and Maria were truly outstanding—top-tier Workawayers in every sense. From the moment they arrived, they felt like part of the family. Respectful, kind, compassionate, and incredibly hardworking, they went above and beyond every single day to care for the animals and support both us and the other volunteers.
They jumped right into animal

We honestly feel like we’ve known them forever, and it was such a gift to share our home and sanctuary with them. They are part of our family now and will also have a home here with us.
They supported with maintenance of the farm property including building gates. So. Many. Gates. If you can survive gate construction and still be smiling, you’re made of something special!
We miss them already and would welcome them back in a heartbeat. Any host would be beyond lucky to have these two in their home.
I hope our paths cross again and wishing you the best in your Canadian travels!
Martin and Rike stayed with us for three months, and to say they made a lasting impact would be an understatement. Beyond their contributions to the sanctuary, Martin and Rike were wonderful to live with. They kept the house tidy, cooked delicious meals, and always went the extra mile to make the space feel warm and welcoming. It felt completely natural to share our home with them—they quickly became more like family than guests.
What made their stay even more special was getting to know them as friends— and carrying stories from around the world. We loved hearing about their travels and the way they approach life with heart and humility. They’re the kind of people you hope to have in your life forever. Their presence here will be felt for years to come, not just in the things they built, but in the spirit they left behind. We will miss you and hope you see you in 6 years!! 💖
We had such an amazing time at the sanctuary. It was our first Workaway experience and we were so incredibly lucky.
We stayed for two months and helped with animal chores, which took about 2,5 hours a day and included feeding, filling up water, raking, teaching the piggies tricks and most importantly lots of cuddles. Afterwards we worked on
… read more different kinds of projects like building shelters or fences, doing medical checks, renovating and painting in the house, etc. Aimee always considered our individual skills and what each of us liked to do when giving us tasks so we really enjoyed the work. We were able to learn so much and gain a lot of skills during our stay, which we are very thankful for.
All of the animals are so beautiful and everybody has their own personality. They are all really being loved and treated like royalty, especially the sheep of course.
A lot of time was just about getting to know all of them and forming meaningful connections. We will miss cuddling the two dogs Odin and Yeti and Peachy the cat, giving Rydda her chest rubs, being greeted by a smiling Buddy in the morning, telling Stiorra she’s beautiful, seeing Baby’s joy, saving Ruke from eating literally everything, going for rides with Rio and Bouge, running around with Arrat the goat, listening to music with the pigs and we could go on about every single one of them.
Aimee is the most amazing host you could imagine. She is a very open minded, easy going, empathetic and funny person. We spend a lot of time together playing card games, having a lot of good talks about life, cooking delicious meals together, laughing until our stomachs hurt and we were crying (Aimee is literally the person we have most insiders with). It is also so nice to see how much love and passion she has for all her animals and how she created such a beautiful home for all of them.
The sanctuary has definitely also became a home to us. It made the start of our journey even better than we had imagined and Aimee, Kevin, Anita and all of the animals turned into a second family for us. We really miss all of them and are so grateful for our time on the sanctuary.
Thank you so so much for having us and for still being our Canadian mom!!
There are no words that truly capture the magic Henrike and Eileen brought into our lives and to our farm sanctuary. From the moment they arrived, they radiated warmth and compassion that our animals—and all of us—instantly felt.
Watching them wander the sanctuary, you’d see how they cherished every creature they came across, greeting each one
… read more by name, offering a gentle pat, chest scratches or laying in the snow with them for belly rubs or cuddles. The love they had for the animal residents here was evident and everyone was eager to get their love and attention. Henrike and Eileen built lasting relationships with many of the animal residents here, and were always communicating any changes to behavior so we could ensure everyone, including our animals with special needs were comfortable.
In addition to caring for the animals, Henrike and Eileen also helped us to organize several of our out buildings and also organized our basement area helping to create more recreation space for volunteers. They helped to build a small shelter, fixed fences and gates and painted for us as well during their stay. They updated our new onboarding checklists to help us to train new volunteers to ensure the animals received the best level of care in their absence. Their work ethic and dedication is unmatched.
Over the course of two months, they didn’t just volunteer here—they became part of our family. Saying goodbye felt a bit like watching our own children head out into the world. It’s hard to imagine the sanctuary without their laughter echoing through the kitchen, without their gentle hands helping to care for the animal residents.
We are humbled and honored that the sanctuary was a chapter in Henrike and Eileen’s journey. Wherever they go, they bring kindness, open communication and support. There will forever be a place for them here. If anyone has the privilege of hosting them next, know you are welcoming into your home two souls who will lift your spirit and leave your place far better than they found it.
Thank you, Henrike and Eileen, for sharing your gifts with us. Our doors will always be open for you. Miss you already!Feedback

We spent a month with Aimee and all the animals at the Farm Sanctuary and it was such an incredible experience !
Aimee is one of the kindest persons we ever met, she has a really big heart and a sunny sharing smile. Since the moment we arrived we felt really being a part of the family and she trust us and our skills immediately.
Everything is
… read more very well organised here, you have to help 5h a day, 5 times a week, and you have a lot of free time for yourself. (Cuddling the animals is actually a part of the job). Aimee is really open minded concerning the planning of your work time so you can easily take time to visit the area and do whatever you want.
During this month we had the feeling to be part of a summer camp while playing games with the other helpers, partying, cooking together, sharing stories and traditions from our different countries.
Aimee was always very attentive to us, making sure we were missing nothing. She gave us a really nice and comfortable room that we happily shared with the cats at night (Don't move your toes under the blanket if Willa is sleeping with you). Aimee was always filling the fridge with really good food, which is really nice if you like to cook.
If you want to ban stress and problems from your life, experience slow life and being loved by the animals you're taking care of, this is the right place for you.You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Evariste and Elodie stayed with us for the month of November, and they were truly incredible Workaway guests. From the moment they arrived, it was as if we had known them for years and felt like part of our family- one month wasn’t nearly long enough!
They took the time to get to know each of our animals and their unique personalities, treating
… read more them with kindness, patience, and genuine care. When I was unwell, Evariste, Elodie and the other guests went above and beyond, stepping up to ensure all the animals were safe, fed, and cared. We are truly grateful for your kindness.
They amazed us with their skills and creativity, building a chicken coop addition complete with a pitched roof that was both practical and beautifully crafted. In the kitchen, they were equally impressive, making onion pie, French onion soup, and the best pizza we’ve ever had—make sure you ask them "the Rüky" recipe!
Their eagerness to learn and share their own talents was inspiring. Evariste and Elodie taught us carpentry, cooking, and French with such enthusiasm and expertise. They brought positivity, hard work, and a deep sense of connection to our home.
We would welcome them back with open arms anytime and highly recommend them to any future hosts. Thank you, Evariste and Elodie—you’ve left a lasting impact on our sanctuary and in our hearts!

I spent 3 weeks with Aimee and her animals and it was a wonderful time that I will never forget! If you love animals this is the place for you!
Each of their animals has its own character and story. And that's why the work is so much fun.
In the morning work began with feeding, changing water and cleaning the enclosures. And of course lots of
… read more cuddling with the animals. The work didn't feel like work because it was always a lot of fun. In addition to working with the animals, we also worked on projects like a new lock for the pigs' gate and cleaning out the shed. I learned so many new things.
I miss cuddling with Baby and Buddy in the stable, going horseback riding with Bouche, playing with the goats, teaching the pigs tricks and playing in the snow with Odin and Yeti.
But the chickens, the roosters, the geese, the ducks and the Muscovys are particularly dear to my heart. Every morning Blue greeted me at the gate with his cute hiss and kept me company while I worked. Luis the goose was always very happy when I gave him fresh hay and the other ducks always enjoyed their bath in the morning. My favorite rooster, Sarge, can be a bad boy at times, but he also enjoys attention. Linden and the other chickens were always very grateful when I brought them snacks. I miss them all very much.
Willa, the cutest cat ever, often slept in my room and I miss my little roommate very much, even though Willa is an early riser and liked to get up at 5:30.
Every animal is unique and that is what makes this place so special.
Aimee is the best host you could ever imagine. Her love for animals is so inspiring and she will do anything for her animals. Aimee and I did a lot of vet stuff together like checking on the chickens, giving lice treatment, hoof trimming, cleaning Stiorra and she taught me a lot for which I am very grateful. I want to become a veterinarian and thanks to Aimee I was able to gain some experience.
Aimee enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and is always open to questions. She is funny, caring and has a big heart for all animals and people. She picked us up from hockey games at night, we went to a Christmas party together and always tried to show us the area around Kretova. We cooked together in the evenings and played games. And always laughed a lot together. I couldn't have asked for a better host than Aimee!
Our group was amazing. Chiara, Eileen and Henrike, I miss you very much too! After work we played Wii, baked, went horseback riding together, went to hockey games, watched movies and cuddled with the animals outside in the snow. Even though we've only had 3 weeks together, it feels like we've known each other forever.
My time went by far too quickly and I wish I could have stayed longer. But I'll definitely be back! With this place I have found a place that is like a second home for me and I have made friends for life. I can't wait to come back! It was very difficult for me to say goodbye, but it's not a forever goodbye.
I can't recommend it enough! If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
This is a paradise for animals and for people who love animals. Thanks Aimee for everything! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Carla at the Sanctuary. Carla was with us for three weeks, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. From the moment she arrived, she brought an infectious positive energy that uplifted everyone on the farm—both human and animal alike. 🐑🐐🐓
Carla demonstrated exceptional skill and attentiveness in caring
… read more for our diverse group of animals. She confidently managed feeding routines, daily care, and even assisted with basic administration of treatments, hoof trims, and health checks. Her keen observation and dedication ensured that the animals were not only well-cared for but also truly at ease in her presence. Carla aspires to be a veterinarian, and we have no doubt that she excel in this field.
Beyond her work with the animals, Carla was a culinary inspiration in the kitchen (those rice wraps 🤌🏻). Her “can-do” attitude and impeccable work ethic were evident in everything she did, whether tackling a routine task or stepping up to unexpected challenges.
Carla was an absolute delight to host. It immediately felt like she was a member of our family and like we've known her for years. We hope she’ll return for a longer stay in the future. 🐓 She made a meaningful impact on our sanctuary, and we know she’ll bring the same energy, skill, and warmth to any project she undertakes. Five gold stars for this one!
Thank you, Carla, for being such a wonderful part of our team during your stay! We will make sure Blue gets his head pats and that Sarge doesn't stray. 😊 Best of luck with the year ahead.
