    Description

I’m 30, living on a farm with about 5000 sheep, near Gore in Southland. I returned home 5 years ago with a fresh perspective; my OE was a transformative experience. I had the opportunity to help on farms in Austria and USA, and I loved it, so now I’m offering the same opportunity to others in the hope that they’ll help bring my vision for this property into reality.

We've been really active in the regenerative agriculture movement and recently founded a Charitable Trust to explore nature-based solutions in our rural areas.

Outside farming I’m into music, meaningful (or meaningless) chats and pretty much anything sport/activities. The Mataura River runs along our boundary, and it is idyllic for swimming, fishing, and we have 2 disc golf courses on the property.

Though rural Southland isn’t exactly a thriving hub of action, 2 hours driving will get you to the coast in any direction and there’s some pretty epic stuff to see in that circumference.

I don’t have a lot of experience, but I do have solid plan on how to reach my food production-related goals. I’m willing share the knowledge I have, my vision, and my home if you share your willingness to pitch in and lend a hand.

I was away from home for a long time, so I’ve got a lot of exploring to do here in NZ myself; there’s definite potential to co-incide our plans here. I hang with a fair crew of larrikins so there is also definite potential to see some genuine NZ “culture”.

Very flexible, dependent on your desires and on seasonal requirements. If you’re interested in seeing how a sheep farm works then I sure can provide an experience. Outside of that, a lot of the help will be around the section; gardening, pruning, maintenance, a little building etc.

The grand vision towards self-sufficiency includes implementation of a profitable vege garden and a permaculture orchard – both of these projects are in early stages. We have been growing and trialing extensive permaculture efforts in the last few years. It is also a very beautiful garden, all of which requires regular upkeep.

If you come bearing any specific skills – art, building or whatever—I’m fairly certain we can come up with a project to accommodate for such talents. This is a big property with a great many possible trajectories to explore. It’s also a classic New Zealand sheep farm, so you’ll get a genuine taste of kiwiana.

We host a notorious music and arts festival by the river on the farm - . In the summer months focus draws more and more towards this project as the date draws closer. There are always structures that need built, permaculture gardens that need developed for farm to plate food options and we hope to create and install as many art works as reasonable. If any of these projects sounds suited to your skills, please let me know!! :)

You’ll be living with me in the homestead on the farm. It’s a funky 5 bedroom place so heaps of space. Mom is currently in the transition of moving into her new house. My brother also lives here sporadically. He is somewhat of a yogi, so if he’s around, and if you’re into mindful stretching or other spiritual topics, you’ll love chatting to him.

I live very ‘mi casa su casa’ so if you’re easy going, it’ll all be good. I wouldn’t claim to be the greatest chef, but there’s always heaps of food (hopefully homegrown) and always plenty of cold libations.

If you’re hiring a car or something, then it is very easy to get here. By public transport – I’m not so sure—Google will know; otherwise, if you’re coming to the South of New Zealand you will probably be going to Queenstown. I’ve got connections with mates and family there and near Wanaka, so there’s the possibility of being able to pick you up/drop you off. I can also provide some top recommendations on how to enjoy your time spent there..

So, if you’re wanting a NZ agricultural experience, or if you’re after somewhere to base yourself and chill from a wild travel schedule, shoot me a message, and we’ll try and work something out!

    Cheers!!
