Description
We are a small ambitious mixed farm with a diverse base: We run a well-established edible plant nursery, a sawmill and woodlot, large orchards, large annual gardens, chickens and geese, and we always have a few bigger development projects on the go. We also have a new baby named Florence!
We are getting ready launching a goat micro-dairy, digging a water capture swale through the orchards, making firewood and milling all the boards that are required for our projects! We are always needing help in the annual garden, and perennial orchards doing things like mulching, fertilizing and weeding. So people with energy and practical skills would be very much appreciated. We can talk more in person about what's specifically going on at the time of your potential stay.
We have a tiny human community here, as well as two big boisterous Maremma LGD dogs, a golden doodle and two farm cats.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The community on the farm (4 households) and on Denman Island as a whole is very welcoming. There is an abundance of outdoor exploring, foraging, and free thinking folks to inspire you. We live adjacent to a very large network of forest parks and nature reserves and only a 5 min drive to the Pacific Ocean.
Help
Gardening, orcharding, food processing, firewood, land clearing, and general maintenance. It really depends on the week!

Accommodation is a studio in the upstairs of our barn. It has a small kitchen, electric heater, electricity, running water. It has lots of character and is nice and cozy for 1-2 people. There are two single beds. You will have an outdoor composting toilet. Hot water showers are available in our house.
During the warm season we can also accommodate more campers in a nice quiet area by the marsh that we are currently developing into a more full service campground and event space.
We provide a great diet of food produced from the land and quality food from the store. We produce our own venison, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables and grain. We buy other organic staples from the store. Don't expect any processed or packaged foods. Generally we share lunch and some dinners together and otherwise set people up to do their own breakfasts and easy dinners in their own kitchen. What else ...
There are local beaches, parks, hiking trails. The local town centre is small and quaint but it has most things you could need like a cafe, restaurant and general store. There are community gatherings at the town centre, as well as an arts centre. We can supply bicycles.
