Description
We are Jo and Jake, street performers making an eco creation studio in southern Spain, where small theatre companies will eventually come to develop their ideas.
We are also excited to see how we can re-wild our olive groves, using the permaculture techniques we are gradually acquiring, whilst making a beautiful environment for people to create in. We are off-grid, but have bountiful electricity from our solar panels, and a generator for backup. We have a makeshift kitchen, an indoor bathroom with toilet, and compost loo. We have a washing machine.
Our 24-year-old son Roo, also comes to stay regularly. We are in our late fifties and early sixties (how did that happen?). We are politically engaged.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We will be learning from each other in many aspects of construction, farming and gardening.
English has tended to be the main means of communication, which suits those who wish to improve on theirs. However, we have travelled and worked worldwide, so are used to communicating with people of diverse cultures and languages.
Many workawayers have improved their culinary skills from collaborating on preparing vegetarian and vegan dishes especially.Help
There is various work around the developing eco creation studio.
We have built a wooden yurt and are finishing it off. We will be building more compost toilets; a workshop in two joined shipping containers; an enclosed structure for solar panels and water heating; various other structures. We repair fencing; make new vegetable plots, plant trees; maintain irrigation channels. We also have to maintain the olive grove (lots of wood processing), and, one day, building a natural swimming pool.
We sometimes work together, sometimes alone. We need people who are motivated to work independently, and also as a team. We need people who have experience of outdoor work, are physically and mentally fit, and are willing to engage in hard physical labour, as well as lighter work.
Typical daily jobs include: cutting wood, shredding leaves, cleaning an above-ground pool, brushing and mopping floors, cleaning the living spaces, making the fire (on winter evenings), creating compost, strimming, watering plants and trees, and cooking .
Less fequent jobs include: pruning olive trees and other vegetation, wall-building, plumbing, carpentry, repairing tools...Languages

There are two bedrooms in the shared house, which each can accommodate two people. There is also a bell tent in the garden, often preferred in good weather. We try to give people their own room but sometimes people will need to share.
If you work five hours a day, five days a week, we provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. On work days, workawayers are collectively responsible for making their own breakfast, and cooking lunch and dinner. They are also collectively responsible for washing up after every meal (we do have a dishwasher), and keeping the kitchen clean at all times, including the floor. These domestic tasks are not part of the daily five hours work!
We expect you to clean your room whilst staying and before leaving, so it's in a beautiful state for the next workawayer. We like people who are happy to get involved, who are passionate about permaculture and want to work hard! What else ...
We are 20 minutes walk from Orgiva, with many cafes and bars. The town is a mixture of traditional Andalucian agricultural town, and bohemian centre, with lots of travellers, hippies, progressives, mavericks, Sufis, and other people from all over the world. There is also an established Buddhist centre a drive away. The Alpujarra is a really multicultural place, and that's how we like it!
There are lots of workshops, groups, and markets occuring in the surrounding area, including saunas and yoga at our neighbours. Often there are parties, raves, live music and performances in various locations.
There are beautiful walks starting from our land.
We are 40 minutes from the beach by car, and about an half hour to the mountains. You can ski in the Sierra Nevada in winter!
Granada is about 45 minutes, with all the benefits a city brings, and hot springs nearby in the countryside.
We recommend workawayers have their own transport, but people here often hitchhike too.A little more information
