We invite you to provide some detailed information about yourself and your experience on or around a farm. Please feel free to add anything else so that we may get to know you better. Thank you!

If you are have some trades, carpenter, landscaper or related experience, please share with us your questions and your experiences. Please tell us a little about your experiences in your field, because part of your daily farm tasks will be outside and sometimes your hands will get dirty around our property. Duties will consist of outdoor work and could include weeding, usual help around the house, gardens and of course our animals. Our little dog Sami also will get her walk with you.

We offer accommodation to working volunteers. We can accommodate a maximum of 2 people in a shared cabin who are willing to commit to at least 3-4 weeks stay, with an option to extend their stay depending on availability. Working hours are 5 hours per day, Monday - Friday in return for limited choice of daily meals, in your fully furnished private cabin. Please be aware that if we are already accommodating another Workawayer you will be sharing the space with one other Workawayer in the cabin.

Other benefits include - free WIFI and fantastic environment on unique Saanich Peninsula, near Victoria BC.

We would like our helpers to check in on MONDAY if possible, so we have a time to welcome them to become familiar with our set-up on our Hobby Farm. The SATURDAY is usually check-out time at noon. We try to be flexible and understanding to everyone needs and will accommodate as best we can to avoid problems.

We both are semi-retired, but we continuously work our property as much as we can. Both of us were deeply involved in the competitive sports industry in the past including gymnastics, tennis, and track and field. Marta was a member of the Czechoslovakian National gymnastics team and was the founder of one of Victoria's most successful gymnastics training facilities which still operates today!

We encourage those to apply who enjoy a pleasant place, have respect for the environment, enjoy being surrounded by forest, close to the ocean and mountains, have plenty of initiative and feel comfortable around animals.

The specific tasks vary depending on the season. For example, we harvest our blueberries in July and August, and in September we are in our orchard and vineyard harvesting and preserving. Ongoing tasks throughout the year could include maintenance of fences in and around animals shelters and pastures. Daily cleaning of animal spaces and barn. Garden maintenance includes weeding and keeping areas cleared from brush and in the fall raking the leaves and pruning the fruit trees. Our orchard has 12 fruit trees. We also have small vineyard with a lots of work especially in the summertime. There is also an expectation of at least one day per week of indoor household cleaning.

Due to the physical nature of the work around the farm our preferences are WorkAwayers ages 23 to 35 years old with some solid experiences under their belt.

We are a small working farm and value reliability, maturity, and clear communication. This is a work exchange - accommodation is provided in return for completed agreed working hours.

We appreciate proactive helpers who take initiative and respect shared spaces. You must love animals and bring a caring heart. We welcome kind, happy energetic people.

We begin each stay with a 5 day mutual trial period to ensure a good fit for everyone. Workawayers will be expected to understand and sign an agreement form to ensure that expectations are clear for both parties during your stay here at the Farm. The agreement outlines work hours, type of work, communication, meals, accommodation, departure expectations and mutual respect.

Please note that smoking of any kind is absolutely NOT permitted anywhere on the property.

Thank you for your consideration and look forward to welcoming you to stay and enjoy our farm and the beautiful surrounding area.

    Accommodation

Volunteers have deluxe accommodations in a private self-contained cabin with amazing ocean and mountain views. The cozy cabin is located on the farm in open pastures among our sheep grazing, sometimes with lambs in the early spring adding to your enjoyment. Included is a fully equipped kitchen, with patio, 3 piece bathroom, storage area, separate sleeping quarters with bunk beds, all linens are provided EXCEPT towels and we like the cabin to be left in clean condition upon your departure. The cabin accommodates a maximum of two people.

Enjoy a spectacular sunrise from the kitchen each morning with your first cup of coffee.

As our farm operates with a sensitive septic system, in the summertime we have to be extra careful of our water consumptions and the helpers will be asked to be considerate of this and keep showers short as well as other water saving techniques. We must also be very mindful of what goes down the toilet! These instructions will be made clear upon arrival.

We can provide the appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear for those working during the rainy season here from October to March. It is encouraged to come prepared in those seasons to be outdoors in the rain.

Our volunteers will need to do laundry offsite at a public laundromat.

    FOOD:
Breakfast and lunches you will be preparing yourself in the cabin with the food supply provided by your host family.
We itemize exactly what food we supply during your stay. The list of food is inside the pantry in the kitchen. NO exchanges on grocery. Meals together in the main house on Monday-Thursday or simple meals provided to cook in the cabin. We encourage recipe sharing & eating together, but adjust to the days flow. However, we are unable to fully accommodate Vegan/Vegetarian, since we have different diet in our home. Thank you for your understanding in advance.
