    Description

Our place is set in 50 acres of beautiful woodland in the Highlands near Inverness & Findhorn. It is a Tibetan Buddhist centre aiming for sustainable, low impact and eco friendly management of the woodlands and hermitage. We have planning permission for several retreat cabins and are currently preparing them for year-round use by retreatants.

This gives a chance for you to be involved in a pioneering project where you may be involved in helping to in many areas such as: IT, social media, building maintenance, housekeeping, land care, and much more. In the process you are helping to create something unique and special. We live in a simple style, with awareness, respect and kindness as the basic motivation of our project. You will also be welcome to attend daily meditation practices in the Meditation temple.

The woodland is secluded but not remote. A 15min walk through the woods brings you to the main road where you are connected to public transport and can go to the shops in Inverness, the beach at Findhorn, the Cairngorm National park or still further north and west to the many beautiful Scottish Islands. However, the local Moray Micro climate means we have far less rain and midges than on the West Coast ;)

Local people also come to help us and volunteer their time. When they do come we work together and share lunch which is fun. If you are interested in Tibetan Buddhism, we have daily practice meditation sessions in the Vajrayana tradition. On Saturdays we host our Saturday Sangha which is attended by people from the local area (and beyond), with meditation and discussion which you are invited to join.

You will enjoy yourself if you are independent, able to use your initiative and love being in quiet, secluded natural environment. You can work with us, together sharing the joy of creating a special spiritual place for the greater good.

We need help with the physical work of building, groundwork and clearing woodland. If you have any skills in range of building and maintenance tasks that would be great.

We also need help in creating a friendly welcoming environment, with support needed in the shared areas with the housekeeping, cooking, and gardening tasks. If you have office skills, or talents in organisation and in creating spaces for groups, this may too be helpful.

    Accommodation

We have some wooden buildings with simple, comfortable rooms, as well as caravans. In the central area there is a shared kitchen, a wood burning stove, a big kitchen/dining table, and a lounge area with sofas where you can relax and socialise.

    Food is vegetarian.

There is a beautiful Buddhist temple for meditation and many books in the library, as well as a sunny courtyard, all very peacefully tucked away in the woodland.

There is also a shared toilet and shower block, and we help by taking turns to keep it clean.

The Findhorn Ecovillage Community is just a few miles away. The local villages have many clubs and groups and there are a lot of opportunities to go dolphin spotting, walking in the mountains or on the beaches, visiting Loch Ness, the many local castles, stone circles, and exploring Inverness and the local towns. There is a bus stop a few minutes walk away with regular buses to the local towns, the airport, and railway stations.
