    Description

It is located in Co. Fermanagh and sits on the shores of tranquil Upper Lough Erne – part of the largest inland waterway in Europe.

We are a charity that offers outdoor adventure possibilities to people of all abilities. Our 60 acre site and fully accessible residential centre offers everyone the opportunity to have unforgettable experiences and create memories that will last forever.

Working with children, young adults, families, elderly and the disabled; We can provide all of our visitors with valuable experiences to help them with their personal development, confidence, new skills, growth, career preparation, mental health challenges or just letting loose and having some fun!

The site is for day visitors but also has a residential capacity for hundreds of guests. They can take part in arts programs, skills courses, water and land adventure sports or avail of the onsite pool and leisure center.

We operate with a core team of dedicated and qualified staff who are supported by local, national and international volunteers who help us collectively achieve our goal of inclusive opportunities for all.

Travellers who visit will be lucky to be placed right on the shores of Lough Erne. Close to the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, our central location opens up a range of further travel opportunities for anyone hoping to explore the country further.

The shores and islands of Lough Erne have been occupied from time immemorial, leaving behind a wealth of mysterious Celtic statues and monastic ruins. Anyone interested in history, archaeology, architecture and nature will be overwhelmed at the abundance of attractions in our area. Our local mountain range is only 20 minutes in a UNESCO global geopark featuring rugged uplands, lakes and forests through to gently rolling drumlins, the landscapes representing a complex Earth history dating back as far as 895 million years ago.

If anyone hopes to improve language skills they will have ample opportunity to communicate with our guests and team in English as well as the possibility to discover a little about the Irish language; or even learn from the other international guests and team members on site!

During your stay you will meet an amazing team of staff and helpers, many of whom will also be staying on site. Evening activities and meet ups are common place for those seeking social experiences. We love the outdoors so expect barbecues and a lively bunch of enthusiastic people willing to take you along on their own self directed events on site, locally or as little as 40 minutes across the country to the ocean on the wild Atlantic west coast.

Helpers can get as involved as they wish in cultural, social or educational opportunities. All the same opportunities are available to those who prefer to run solo. Your time is your own and there are no demands on how you spend it; only invitations.

We ask any helpers to bring themselves to the role. Do you have any areas of expertise or interest that we could help you use and develop? We aim to link people with rewarding and meaningful tasks that they will enjoy. Certain skill sets can help us complete goals within the center although no training or qualifications are necessary. Do you have a disability? We specialize in accommodating peoples needs so just let us know and we can work with you on it.

Roles range from assisting our qualified outdoor team with adventure activities; Learn to deliver sessions in kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing or mountain biking.... to name a few! Have creative skills? Why not help our arts team run sessions in T-Shirt printing, mosaic, face painting, mudroc or ceramics. Gardening or enviromental backround or interests? We are always working on eco projects to supplement our already thriving conservation efforts such as our reed bed filtration system, Ridan composter, wood pellet burners and solar power systems.

Travellers have many choices when they choose to workaway with us and are supported throughout their trip by a volunteer manager whose role it is to ensure all helpers experiences are worthwhile and mutually beneficial. All volunteer activities and tasks are risk assessed and supervised by qualified team members.

You are not our volunteers; We are your organisation. We hope to provide an exciting, culturally rewarding, safe and unforgettable experience to anyone kind enough to help us maintain our ethos.

Paid work could be available after your workaway for those who bring certain skills and qualifications and are legally entitled to work in Northern Ireland.

  • Languages

    Languages spoken
    English: Fluent

This host offers a language exchange
We can help anyone wanting to improve English as it is the spoken language on site and we encourage internationals to speak only English around guests. We host language programs during July and members of our permanent team speak Spanish, Irish, French, Czech, Lithuanian and Afrikaans.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodation options vary throughout the year.

We have two houses just off site for staff and volunteers, usually reserved for longer stays during the busy summer season. On site we have a farmhouse accommodation which is always kept available for short term volunteers during even our busiest times.

In all cases, please expect to be sharing a bathroom and possibly also a bedroom if we have a high volume of helpers during your visit. We aim not to fill the spaces to full capacity so as to allow enough space and privacy for the team. Female/Male only options and disability access available. Please discuss with us your needs and expectations so we can appropriately accommodate you.

If your visit coincides with a slower period at the center and some of our guest accommodation is available, we will be happy to house you in a private room in our holiday cottages or chalets during your stay, possibly even all to yourself!

All helpers will have full use of the sites facilities. Pool, gym and leisure suite can be arranged free of charge and you can use all of the centers outdoor equipment once inducted and briefed on the health+safety issues. We have our own Island just across the Lough with bothy accommodation and camping if you want a 'night away' during your time with us. We can provide all the camping gear too so no need to bring it along. Between bikes, boats and bothy's, your accommodation may not see much of you!

Please note all visitors will have access to a self catering fully equipped kitchen. Meals also available free of charge when the catering department are in operation, which is most of the year with some exceptions off season.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Please note that although our site is a tranquil spot on the lake shore, we are only a 5 minute drive or less than 20 minute bike ride to the nearest town with groceries, cafes, bars and more. Public transport across the country is accessible from here and daily trips are made to town by various members of the team so its never hard to get what you need.

VERY IMPORTANT: Our center deals with children and vulnerable young people and adults. Safeguarding them and our codes of conduct are of utmost importance to their protection. Helpers may not be placed in certain roles if we do not feel it is appropriate or they are not inducted to do so. Training and National/International police checks for criminal records are required for all roles. For any longer stays we can help you with this process if you wish to do so.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE IN NORTHERN IRELAND, UK.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU HAVE LEGAL STATUS AND ARE ABLE TO VOLUNTEER HERE.

UK, Irish and Commonwealth citizens with the right to abode in the UK, BNO passport holders with valid visa, settled status holders, and those with Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme (working holiday) visas can still avail of volunteer opportunities in NI.

EU NATIONALS ON HOLIDAY VISAS CAN ONLY VOLUNTEER IN NORTHERN IRELAND UP TO 30 DAYS MAXIMUM.
MOST NATIONALITIES OUTSIDE EU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO VOLUNTEER WITHOUT A SPECIFIC VISA.
WE ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO SPONSOR VISA APPLICATIONS.
