  • Description

Knowing that the normal life path of work or further education wouldn't fit me, I left England as soon as I was eighteen and have been travelling in search of as many different cultures and alternative lifestyles as I can find since then. Over the last three years I have spent time doing:

    Off Grid living
I have spent around 9 months living in Off Grid communities in Serbia, Greece, Scotland and Portugal, learning different natural construction methods, how to chop wood, use power tools, make permaculture fields, working with various animals, and all the other skills that come with living off the land. The time I get to spend in nature, isolated from civilisation, is deeply appreciated, and definitely a big part of why I travel.

    Hostel work
I have also spent around 7 months in various hostels, mostly as a cook managing the hostel kitchen, but also cleaning and working reception. As much as I enjoy the isolation of the mountains, the hostels in the city are a great balance and opportunity to be more social and connected with the people around me.

    Farm work
I have been in and out of different farms over the course of the last two years, learning and experiencing alternative farming methods, such as biodynamic and permaculture. I have really loved the routine and rythms of farm life. I also spent 4 months working in a biodynamic cowshed, learning how to work with cows and goats and make many dairy products.

    Education
As the oldest of 5, working with children has always been something I can deeply connect with, and so spending a year teaching English in the Middle East was a truly unique and special experience, and definitely something I would like to do more of. I have also spent some time tutoring English in a creative way, focusing more on teaching confidence and intuition rather than memorising words and phrases.

    Adults with special needs
As my youngest brother also has special needs, this is another line of work I can really connect with. During my year in the Middle east I was also helping out with their day to day needs in a workshop for adults with special needs. Nothing can beat the connections I built during that time.

    Music, baking and cooking
These are probably the three things I do most on a day to day basis. I travel with my guitar and have really enjoyed the journey I have been on (and continue to go on) with music over this time. I have also met with so many different food cultures, and so cooking has gone from somthing I will begrudgingly do, to becoming a passion and form of expression. I love making breads and pies. They are amazing!!

  • More details about your skills

Growing up as the oldest of five, where the youngest has a lot of additional needs, I have the patience and experience of working with children and people with additional needs. I have had a little experience with agriculture on a large and small scale. I have taught English to children at ages ranging from five to twelve. I have cooked (by myself and in a small group) for large groups of people ranging from twenty to one hundred. I have also been vegetarian my whole life, so vegetarian cooking is the normal to me. Name for an instagram account of before/after photos of projects I have worked on is laudae_travels.
