    Description

Welcome to our homestead, our private family home in the countryside of Northern Germany, close to Flensburg and the Baltic Sea.

We live here with our children and many animals: goats, sheep, dogs, cats, chickens and ducks. Our place is not a commercial farm, but a growing family homestead where we are slowly creating a more natural, animal-friendly and self-sufficient way of life. There is always something to do, something to learn and usually at least one animal asking for attention.

Food and nutrition are also important parts of our family life. We enjoy balanced, organic whole-food meals and try to cook with fresh, seasonal and natural ingredients whenever possible. Our way of eating is simple, nourishing and practical — not strict or dogmatic. We love good food, shared meals and the idea that healthy eating can be part of everyday life.

We love the calm rhythm of rural life: feeding the animals in the morning, helping outside, watching the seasons change, growing food, improving the land and creating a warm, welcoming home. Our project is still developing, so Workawayers who enjoy practical tasks, animals, nature and family life will feel most at home here.

Our local area is peaceful, green and close to the Baltic Sea. You can enjoy quiet walks, bike rides, fresh air, small villages, fields, forests and the coast. The Baltic Sea is one of the things we love most about living here — beaches, sea air, changing skies and a relaxed northern German atmosphere. It is a wonderful area if you like nature, animals, simple living and a slower pace.

We are a family with children, so everyday life can be lively, spontaneous and sometimes a little chaotic — in the best way. We appreciate people who are kind, reliable, open-minded and comfortable around children and animals. You do not need to be an expert, but you should be willing to help, learn and be part of daily life.
You will not find luxury or city life. You will find animals, muddy boots, fresh air, family meals, honest help, quiet moments and a home where helping hands are truly appreciated.

We would love to welcome Workawayers who want to experience real rural life in Northern Germany and become part of our little homestead for a while.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange happens mostly through everyday life. You will be part of our family rhythm, spend time with us, the children and the animals, and get to experience real rural life in Northern Germany.

We are happy to share our way of living with you: family life, animals, gardening, cooking, nature, German traditions and the slower pace of life in the countryside. We also enjoy learning about your culture, language, food, experiences and the way you live in your home country. If you like cooking, we would love to try dishes from your country and share simple family meals together.

Our area offers more than just quiet countryside. There are many local events throughout the year, from small village gatherings and seasonal markets to cultural events, music, festivals and activities near the Baltic Sea. The nearby university town has many students, which brings a young and international atmosphere to the region.

There are also local sports clubs, community activities, cafés and international meet-ups where you can meet people, practise German or English, and connect with locals and other internationals. Depending on your interests, you may find opportunities for sports, music, student events, language exchange, cafés, cultural evenings or simply meeting people from the area.

We are close to the Baltic Sea, so you can also explore beaches, coastal villages, nature spots and the relaxed northern German lifestyle during your free time. The region is peaceful, friendly and not too touristy, but still offers many chances to discover local culture and meet people.

We hope that Workawayers will not only help us, but also become part of our home for a while — sharing stories, meals, ideas, languages and everyday moments with us.

  • Help

    Help

We appreciate help with our animals, garden, children and small homestead projects.

Typical tasks include feeding goats, sheep, chickens and ducks, giving fresh water, cleaning animal areas, mucking out shelters, helping with fencing, repairs, small building projects and helping in the vegetable garden.

Depending on the season, you may help with planting, weeding, harvesting, preparing beds, maintaining outdoor areas or improving animal spaces. We also enjoy DIY projects, so there may be opportunities to learn practical skills with tools, small construction tasks and simple technical help under supervision.

We are also a family with children, so sometimes we would appreciate help with simple family life. You should enjoy being around children and feel comfortable in a lively family home.

Experience is helpful, but not necessary. More important is that you are reliable, kind, curious and willing to get your hands dirty. Life on a homestead is not always clean or predictable, but it is rewarding, real and full of small everyday moments with animals, nature and children.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer a clean and safe place to sleep, either in our family home or, depending on the season and availability, in our glamping tent. Our home is a family homestead, not a hotel, so the accommodation is simple, lived-in and personal. Workawayers accept household chores like cleaning their own as well as shared areas of the house regularly.

Inside the house, we can offer a private room for one or two workawayers. The room is simple, comfortable and part of our family home. You will have access to a shower bathroom, which is available for all guests of the house. We kindly ask for respectful and family-friendly use of the shared spaces.

During the warmer months, we may also offer accommodation in a spacious 7-person glamping tent. The tent is set up on our property and gives you a more nature-based experience while still having access to proper facilities. Bedding will be provided. Workawayers staying in the tent will have access to a shower bathroom, which is available for all guests oft he house.

Food is included in a simple and practical way. We usually provide a simple breakfast, a daily lunchbox and a warm dinner. Our meals are generally balanced, organic and whole-food based, with fresh, seasonal and natural ingredients whenever possible. Meals may be shared together with the family when it fits our daily rhythm, or you may sometimes eat on your own if the day is busy or schedules are different.

We do our best to make sure you have a clean, secure and welcoming place to rest after helping around the homestead.

You will have access to electricity and Wi-Fi in the house. If you need a very stable or high-speed internet connection for video calls, online work or client meetings, please let us know before your stay so we can check whether our setup fits your needs. There is no separate office, but depending on the accommodation and our family rhythm, we can usually help you find a quiet place to sit with a laptop. The house can be lively because of children, animals and everyday family life, so it is best suited for people who are flexible and do not need complete silence all day. If you stay in the glamping tent, you should expect a more nature-based experience. Charging devices is possible, but working from the tent may depend on weather, Wi-Fi reach and comfort. Our area is peaceful and close to nature, which can be great for focused work and slowing down. At the same time, there are cafés, local places to sit, international meet-ups and a nearby university town with students and a more lively atmosphere if you want to get out and work or connect with others. We recommend that digital nomads bring everything they need for their own work setup, such as a laptop, headphones, adapters, mobile data backup and any equipment needed for online work.

  • Space for parking camper vans

    Space for parking camper vans

We also have space for campers or small motorhomes on our property. This can be a good option if you prefer to have your own private space while still being part of our homestead life. There is an electricity connection available for campers or motorhomes, and you will have access to a shower bathroom. Please note that we do not have facilities for emptying chemical toilets, black water or grey water. Toilet waste disposal is therefore not possible on our property. The camper area is simple and rural, not a professional campsite. You should be comfortable with a natural setting, uneven ground, animals nearby and the normal sounds of family and homestead life. In return, you can enjoy a peaceful place in the countryside, close to animals, nature and the Baltic Sea region. Please let us know in advance what kind of vehicle you are travelling with, especially the size, so we can make sure that access and parking are suitable.
