    Description

We are a non-smoking, animal-loving couple who have traveled and lived a bit all over the place. Luna is a designer, and Nicola is a data engineer. Collectively, we have worked and lived in 5 countries, and we call Copenhagen home now. Before settling in Copenhagen, we had lived together in Bologna, Boston, and spent 18 months backpacking around the world. And before coming to Workaway, we had been doing HomeExchange and Couchsurfing for many years, as both hosts and travelers. We have welcomed over 100 people to our homes in various places we lived. We are here to join a community of like-minded travelers and hosts who enjoy authentic exchange experiences.

Travelers only need to work 1-2 hours per day to take care of all Youde's needs. They are free otherwise to enjoy Copenhagen during the best time of the year - from May 30 to June 8 - when the days are long and the air is warm but fresh. They can also use our electric bikes, which they can take on trains and metros to explore what the city can offer.

We are in a nice neighborhood called "Grønttorvet," or the “Green Square," where residents enjoy numerous playgrounds, bike lanes, bakeries, grocery stores, and easy access to public transport. Grønttorvet used to be the main fruit, vegetable, and flower market for Copenhagen. Our neighboring buildings include apartment buildings and row houses for families, youth apartments, and senior living facilities.

We are close (8-10 min walking) to the station "København Syd" where you can get on the metro and the S-Trains on A, E, and F lines. It's 3-4 stops from København H (The central train station). While the A/E trains take you to the center in just a few stops, the F train takes you north to Hellerup through Frederiksberg and Nørrebro. There are also buses that go all around Copenhagen and regional trains that take you directly to other parts of Denmark without having to go to København H.

There are a numerous playgrounds and greenhouses just downstairs and on the rooftop, and a community center with a lot of events for remote workers and young parents all year round. In non-winter months guests can also pick cherry tomatoes from the two tomato plants of ours in the community greenhouse, and we also expect guests to help water them. We have two e-bikes, bike seats/bike trailer for up to 2 small children that guests can use.

You can take the bikes (but not the child trailer) on the train easily or bike anywhere in the city.

Big waterfront parks with artificial beaches and bigger playgrounds, Valbyparken and Kystagerparken, is just 7 minutes and 11 minutes biking distance away. Other public facilities such as the swimming pool, library branches, and a small petting zoo with goats, sheep rabbits, and pigs are just 5-10 away by bike.

There are, however, some construction around the railway station and part of the neighborhood so some of the area may feel unfinished.

  • Help

    Help

Between May 30 and June 8 we will need one to two people to help us house sit and take care of our elderly cat, Youde, while we are away. Youde is an otherwise healthy cat who needs insulin injections up to a day.

    Tasks include:
    - Feeding Youde twice a day
    - Monitoring Youde's health and give insulin shots up to twice a day (we will send a tutorial video)
    - Cleaning Youde's litter box daily and weekly maintenance of the litter box pad
    - Housesitting and general cleaning
    - Sending us updates on Youde at least once every 2 days.

We will leave the apartment clean and expect travelers to return it in the same condition.

We send our travelers detailed information in our house manual once a Workaway is confirmed, and we are always available to answer questions. In general, we expect our travelers to confirm reception and read our house manual, especially the part regarding caring for the cat, within a few days of receiving it.

    Accommodation

Traveler will have the entire 3-bedroom apartment. This is our primary residence, so we made it as comfortable as possible for ourselves and our guests. Our home is in an apartment on the 1st floor of a new building in a beautiful neighborhood 15/20 minutes from the center of Copenhagen by bike or take the metro/train. It’s well connected by public transport, and there are is everything you need accessible by foot (playgrounds, grocery stores, bakeries, and restaurants). It has a lot of nice features inside and amenities outside, including 3 bedrooms (one of which is an office/playroom), wooden floors with floor heating, and a lot of natural light.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We do not expect travelers to have prior experience dealing with diabetic cats. The feeding, cleaning, and insulin injections are fairly easy, and Youde is a very sweet cat who doesn't mind the shots at all. Prior experience with animals in general, however, is a strong preference of ours.

Youde is diabetic, but he is doing very well is actually getting into remission. His blood glucose is very well regulated and is currently on an extremely low dose of insulin. There is a possibility that he may not need insulin at all during the period we need but if he needs insulin, it would need to be administrated exactly every 12 hours.
