    Description

It is a project of a charity Foundation which is established in Surmene 35 km east of Trabzon. We own 2 acres (8000m2) of land and 150 years old characteristic black sea house and a newly built country house for accommodation. We need volunteers to work on this project in order to make the old house habitable, design the land according to permaculture principles, and create an eatery (preferably vegan) to generate income for the foundation. My name is Ahmet and I am the director of the foundation. I created retail concepts in London and Istanbul.
We expect our volunteers to set brainstorm meetings and act rapidly to put the ideas into action in return we can provide accommodation and basic food supplies until we start to grow vegetables and fruits from our land by ourselves.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Surmene is a small town by the sea. Our land and houses are 2km from the town center on the hill surrounded by forests. The population is mostly consisting of local people and almost no international immigration or even very few people living from other various cities of Turkey. The majority is Muslim with quite a few rigid conservatives however the people are very welcoming and sympathetic to newcomers. There are still living pure cultural practices, unexplored cuisine, beautiful green nature, and beaches. I will encourage social blending gatherings with locals around the fire every night.

The Foundation is in the ongoing restoration process of a traditional Blacksea house. Our goal is to make this house habitable so that the volunteers can live in. During this process, we expect the volunteers to set meetings for DIY plans (such as sanding and polishing the old wooden floors), setting a fireplace for cooking, designing a food forest, social media campaigns and produce artwork to organize exhibitions.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Initially, we can accommodate 5 to 10 people in the new house which was owned by the foundation. Our aim is to accommodate 20 people in the old historical Foundation house when we finish refurbishing it. I can provide basic supplies such as fruits, vegetables, oils, pasta, rice, bread...etc. however, cooking is expected to be performed by the volunteers. The new house is the accommodation place for the volunteers and owned by our charity establishment. In the future, we will improve the interiors of the old historic house to become our permanent Foundation accommodation space. This year volunteers will stay in the new house as the image can be seen on the profile.
