    Description

Hello, we are George and Virginie and we have a campsite in the beautiful mountainous region of the Cévennes in southern France. It is a vast place in a (still) wild part of France. The campsite is not particularly large (75 emplacements) but is very spread out on 150 hectares! It's practically wild camping.
We have different needs according to the seasons and we are looking for 1 or 2 workawayers also depending on the season. Workawayers need to have their own motorised transport. You will find our seasonal needs below.
    --
    A little about us:
George is Scottish and Virginie is French. We lived in London for over 25 years and decided to leave London 19 years ago to settle in the middle of a wild lanscape running the campsite. It's a family business: George and myself (in our 50s), our 3 children (24-18yrs). They are not living on site at present but sometimes they help us out or work with us in the summer. We are a bilingual family, speaking fluent French and English.

    About the site:
We are in an isolated situation at 900m alt, 3kms from nearest village (which has a shop) and 40 mins from nearest town of Millau (Aveyron, department 12). There is no public transport so having your own transport is ESSENTIAL (please do not reply if you don't have transport) .
We are in a semi-moutaineous area (900m alt) so you need too have good clothing is as it can get cold especially at night.
We hire workawayers in the High season (mid June to early/end September); in the Mid-seasons, so Spring (March to mid-June / early July) and Autumn (September to mid/end of October) and sometimes in Winter (November-February). Please see below the tasks and needs depending on the seasons.

Our campsite is a nature destination. We rent accommodations and we have piches for tents, vans etc.We welcome holiday visitors from April until end of October. In the High Season we have a snack (cooking skills), all the accommodations are opened (cleaning), the reception (hospitality) is opened with a small shop & the pool is opened.

We are happy to exchange skills and tips with workawayers, practice langages.

HIGH SEASON: we are looking for persons who are responsible, have initiative, hard working and who enjoy working as part of team. See summer tasks above.

The summer season can be intense for a few weeks during the Very High Season, but it's summer, so that's nice : ) and you work outdoors a lot of the time (not stuck in an office), meet our clients who are generally pretty cool and nice, practice languages and BONUS you get to stay on a beautiful site and discover a great area on your days off : D

MID SEASONS & WINTER : DIY to work with George who is experienced so there will be an exchange of skills and tips. Practice French and English with Virginie, English (Scottish!) with George. As well as running your business, having a change in your life (like we did 20 years ago!) and life in general!

Workawayers will learn about the touristic business which is varied (many different jobs and skills), and hard work but very enjoyable: you are working in a beautiful environment and dealing with people who are on holiday! Workawayers will learn and discover rural France, a preserved natural landscape in the national park of the Cévennes. If you like the outdoors, there is much to do here. We are 1h30 from Montpellier and the Mediterranean, 2hrs from Nîmes, 3hrs from Clermont Ferrand and we will be happy to advise you where to go, what to do and what to see.

2026: we are looking for 1 or 2 workawayers for the summer season, see below.

HIGH SEASON mid-June to mid/end September. approx. 2.5 months, flexible
We welcome 1 or 2 workawayers. We very much work as a team

    TASKS: Cooking, cleaning, some hospitality.
Workwayers usually do a mixture of tasks, just like we do : ) It depends on your skills, experience and what you are looking for.

Cooking: in July & August we have a small snack, opened evenings. Cooking experience prefered (which means cooking for the public not just cooking your meals at home!). You need to be organised, know concepts of hygiene, work under pressure (for short bursts, when everyone's tummy wakes up!), be efficient.
Cleaning: everywhere and everyday !! the accommodations, common areas (wc & shower blocks). You need to be organised, attention to detail and efficient
Reception work: depending on your level of French and English.
    We are a team of 4 + 2 (sometimes 3) workawayers.

    MID SEASON (Autumn) September -October
TASKS: cleaning, some light maintenance/DIY, some occasionnal hospitality.

    MID SEASON (Spring) February/March-mid June
We welcome 2 workawayers. We have found our workaway team for Spring 2026 due to arrive in February so we are not looking for anyone .

TASKS: maintenance, building projects, DIY, cleaning
We are looking for 1 workaway who has some good DIY experience for light building projects (usually in wood, light masonry) to work with George. Another workaway for cleaning, light maintenance and gardening, to work with Virginie,

The hours worked are paid (french minimum wage with a contract). For administrative reasons, we can ONLY take EU citizens. It is the responsability of the candidate(s) to check with the authorities what paperwork they need to work in France, insurance, health coverage etc. Check with your country of origin.

We look forward to exchanging with you : )

    What else ...

If you like nature and outdoor activities, calm and tranqulity you will love our site! There are many things to do from hiking, cycling, mountain biking, canooing, climbing, parapente, star gazing, via ferratta, potholling. We are isolated so you need to be HAPPY on your OWN, especially if you come alone.
The city of Montpellier is 1h30 mins. Millau is a very pleasant town and is 40 mins away. Food shopping: the local village, Lanuéjols, is 3kms away and has a bakery & shop, there is a bar and a couple of restaurants. Meyrueis (15kms away) is a bigger village with a bank, pharmacy, mini supermarket, a very nice bakery, butcher a market once a week and lots of restaurants. Millau, 35 kms, 40 mins is the nearest city with more shops & supermarkets.
