    Description

Hello, we are George and Virginie and we have a campsite in the beautiful mountainous region of the Cévennes in southern France. It is a vast place in a (still) wild part of France. The campsite is not particularly large (75 emplacements) but is very spread out.
We have different needs according to the seasons (January to mid-mid-September) and we are looking for 1 or 2 workawayers, please see below our specific needs.
    --
    A little about us:
George is Scottish and Virginie is French. We lived in London for over 25 years and decided to leave London 19 years ago to settle in the middle of a wild lanscape running the campsite. It's a family business: George and myself (in our 50s), our 3 children (24-18yrs) altough they are not living on site at present. We are a bilingual family, speaking fluent French and English.

    About the site:
We are in a very isolated situation at 900m alt, 3kms from nearest village and 40 mins from nearest town of Millau (Aveyron, department 12). There is no public transport so having your own transport is ESSENTIAL (please do not reply if you don't have transport) to be independent and to enjoy and discover our beautiful region.
We are in a semi-moutaineous area (900m alt) so bring adequate clothing as it can get cold especially at night.
The high season is July and August but we also welcome workawayers during the Spring, Autumn and Winter, when there is mainly maintenance and building projects.
Our campsite is a nature destination. We rent accommodations and we have piches for tents, vans etc. We are a small campsite (75 pitches, a snack in summer, reception, pool) but on a very large and spread-out site. It's practically wild camping : )

We are looking for a workawayer who has experience in DIY to work with George who is also experienced so there will be an exchange of skills and tips. The workawayers will also learn about the touristic business which has many facets (many different jobs and skills), which is varied and hard work but very enjoyable: you are working in a beautiful environment and dealing with people who are on holiday!

Workawayers will learn and discover rural France, a preserved natural landscape in the national park of the Cévennes. If you like the outdoors, there is much to do here. We are 1h30 from Montpellier and the Mediterranean, 2hrs from Nîmes, 3hrs from Clermont Ferrand and we will be happy to advise you where to go, what to do and what to see.

    2026:
Winter - Spring is maintenance and improvement projects and we are looking for 1 and possibly 2 workawayers (friends or a couple). Please note that in the Winter (January-March) there will only be work for 1 person but we can accommodate 2 persons. It is preferable if the person has experience and is at ease with wood and masonry work. George, who is experienced in DIY, will be working with you and can guide you.
Spring (March-June) a 2nd person is need a few hours a week to get the accommodations ready for the Spring season which starts mid-April. This person needs to be meticulous, organised and independent. In Spring the carpentry projects continue and there is more outdoors work, maintenance, gardening.

We work as a team so we are involved in all parts of the works.

Summer (July to mid September): the clients are here and all DIY work stops! We are looking for 2 persons. The work involves: cleaning accommodations and the sanitary blocks for the campsite, cooking in our snack (opened in the evenings only, cooking experience is preferred ), some reception work if you have a good level of spoken French (and if you have English even better!). The persons have to commit to the whole period and there are more hours worked, 6 days a week. In September, there are less hours as the snack and reception are closed. It's mostly cleaning and some maintenance & gardening work after the season.
We normally look for our summer workawayers a little later in the year but we are mentioning our needs in case the ideal candidates are reading our profile!

You need to have your own motorised transport.

The hours worked are paid (french minimum wage with a contract). For reasons of contracts and work permits we can ONLY take EU citizens. Even with as an EU citizen check with your country of origin if you need to do some adminstrative paperwork in order to work in France.

We look forward to exchanging with you : )

If you like nature and outdoor activities, calm and tranqulity you will love our site! There are many things to do from hiking, cycling, mountain biking, canooing, climbing, parapente, star gazing, via ferratta, potholling. We are isolated so you need to be HAPPY on your OWN, especially if you come alone.
The city of Montpellier is 1h30 mins. Millau is a very pleasant town and is 40 mins away. Millau is the nearest town but the local villages have shops, restaurants and a weekly market so you don't need to go too far to fill the fridge!
