Description
Hello and welcome to Poland! My dog Kuba and I are trying to run a small organic orchard and vegetable plot. We love to have guests come and help out with gardening during the summer months. Late summer and early in the autumn we also need help with painting and general maintenance of the house.
In return I can offer English or Polish conversational lessons or translation, and of course, seasonal, fresh organic fruit!
We live in a converted cottage, and there is a private room for guests and wifi.
Our small orchard is in the village of Polwies ('half-village'), near the historic town of Gniew, in North Poland (and not in the South as this website's map suggests). The village of 332 people has a forest and a small lake within walking distance. We live in a very quiet part of the village, next to the forest, and there are only a handful of houses next to ours, and the 'street' has no name.
The beautiful Wisla river is about 3 miles away through the forest, and the nearest town of Nowe is a bike ride away. The wonderful tri-city area of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia is an hour away by car, and about 1hr 20 minutes by train.
The trees are pear, apple, plum and both sweet and sour cherry, and we also grow strawberries, raspberries, beans, potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables. At times we have to share them with the visiting dear, hares or other forest guests. Outside the season we have a lot of frozen fruit from last year.
There is a piano, a cello, accordion, flute, clarinet and a guitar in the house, WiFi and all other 'civilised' facilities'. Outside in the garden it is quiet and peaceful.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
In summer we need help with gardening and collecting (and eating!) fruit. This includes mowing, pruning, painting trees, weeding, watering and general garden maintenance. 4 -5 hours a day would be great. In late summer and early autumn we appreciate help with painting the house and general repairs.
Help with house chores is NOT needed but I love learning new recipes from other parts of the world therefore shared cooking is welcome.
In return I can teach English and Polish, offer translations and a visit to Gdansk.Languages

What else ...
We are in a really idyllic spot, surrounded by fields and full of nature - we often see deer, birds, rabbits, badgers. In summer we spend most of our time outside. The forest nearby is beautiful. There is a large lake within biking distance. The most interesting attractions nearby are the beautiful historic towns of Gdansk and Torun, and the beach, accessible by train. The Tutonic Castle is in Malbork is quite near as well. We can give lots of advice about local customs and attractions.
Poland has lot of excellent bread, cheese, fish and vegetables, especially in summer. Our frozen fruits from last year are very tasty and we like to make our own ice cream and frozen yoghurt.A little more information

I learned some gardening knowledge from her, and we used the fruit in the orchard to cook and bake. Before I left, she even cooked some Polish food for me. I enjoy the cake, the jam she made very much.
It's a sense of accomplishment to find out seeds budding and growing. Weeding is also interesting as… read more
The walks in the fields, to the lake and especially the meetings we had with the deer, with the porcupine and with the mother-wild-boar in the forest, were unforgettably exciting!
