Description
Hey there!
We are a small farm located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. With a focus on ecological farming, our focus is healing and restoring the land using animals and sustainable management practices. We are in our early years, and are very much still in the establishment process! Come see and learn and work with a farm that’s starting out, and really be apart of the process.
We have three children and a sourdough bread business. Our local community is welcoming and we feel so lucky to be a part of it. Our farm is surrounded by rolling hills, lakes, rivers and forest. The ocean is not far from us either!
We have a network of friends and other farmers/homesteaders. There are so many people with so many things to teach and talk about. The village closest to us has a cafe, a grocery store, and a farmers market weekly. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Workawayers will have the opportunity to really be involved in our day to day life; eating meals together, going on outings to town, coming along to the farmers' markets, joining us at the free Community Coffee hosted in our local town, meeting friends and neighbours through our weekly potluck which we host here at the farm.
We can share our knowledge around gardening and animal husbandry, welding and basic carpentry and sourdough bread baking.
We would love to learn how to cook different foods and dishes from our Workawayers, and share in some language learning too. An adult in the household used to attend French Immersion School when younger, and so understands French (as rusty as they may be!)
We are a safe space, in that we support and welcome those who are a part of the 2SLGBTQQIPAA community, and are proud allies of the BIPOC community. -
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
Workawayers will have the opportunity to help with:
-animal/livestock care, which includes basic animal care but also rotational grazing and moving.
-vegetable and perennial garden establishment and maintenance (planting, weeding, watering, harvesting)
-firewood
-childcare
-general property maintenance (trimming of trees, grass, etc).
You will be helping alongside us, as well as doing some independent tasks. We love skill sharing and teaching!
While we do run a farmers’ market based sourdough bakery from the farm, Workawayers will only be helping with home and farm tasks. -

Accommodation
For accommodation, we have several tents available, along with bedding, available for Workawayers. Bathroom and kitchen are welcome to be used.
We will provide 3 meals per day 5 days per week for Workawayers. 1-2 times per week a meal exchange would be had; where the Workawayer cooks or introduces the house to a favourite meal from back home. Help with food prep twice per week is expected. -
What else ...
There are some really wonderful lakes and rivers nearby. This is a great area for biking. There are a few U-Pick berry farms nearby as well. Closer to the shore there is a bus route that takes travelers through smaller towns up to Halifax if day trips are desired.
