The eco-centre is an emerging and unique enterprise in the Rocky Mtn foothills of northwest Canada. The property is situated on the shores of Moberly Lake, in north-east BC. Proprietor Reg has lived in the Peace region since 1991, where he has operated an environmental, community development and land-use planning consultancy. Reg also enjoys cultural pursuits in music and international travel. He also created and supports to a non-profit organization: which promotes eco-friendly livelihood diversification and support for food, water and energy security.
With the help of extended family and youth workers from the community and First Nations over several years, the property now has three facilities including a rental guest cabin, office/guest house, and lakeshore principal dwelling to provide a range of guest accommodations. Efforts are being made this year to complete renovations including alternative-energy retrofits, interior design renovations featuring a lakeview music studio, a roof-top garden plus production garden. I would love for you to share this experience in helping to realize this community eco-cultural project vision if you have some of the basic skills and interests to support our program.
The impressive surroundings and vibrant local economy creates a foundation for the facility which is situated midway between Vancouver, BC and Whitehorse, Yukon and a convenient base for travellers or residents to enjoy a tranquil natural setting, amazing outdoor adventures, and unique northern rural and aboriginal cultural experiences.
Plans are to start hosting a few short-stay tourist visitors, backpackers and friends starting in the early summer 2020 --- as Creator & my ability permits . The facility when, fully operational will have capacity to host visitors and international travellers as a unique short or extended stay visitor experience.
Reg's professional background has focused on sustainability planning with northern rural and First Nation's communities. This work and life experience is being transferred into this new creative and visionary endeavour to shape people's abilities for cooperative intentional travel and learning about environmentally-sensitive living and learning....not to mention, just simply enjoying beautiful & tranquil surroundings or sharing in an impromptu jam session overlooking the Lake!

This location is ideally situated for cross cultural exchange given the owner's extensive experience with international travel exchange, combined with numerous local aboriginal community summer activities.
The volunteer (preferably with travel companion as an additional workaway volunteer). The work exchange is for about 5 hrs per day doing a range of tasks, including building/property maintenance, interior cleaning, meal preparation, maintaining a garden/orchard site, doing eco-energy retrofits, and other permaculture design as appropriate.
In 2020, WA volunteer(s) with the desired skill set can help with construction of a solar array structure, installation of a windmill water pump storage and other light construction. Other creative permaculture ideas will be welcome that you might wish to suggest.
Additional help is also desired to develop the Eco-Centre online resources, with social marketing and promotion. There are venues to promote your art, offer some instruction on topics of your own or supporting other community learning interest as opportunities present themselves. We can discuss such possibilities to enrich our experience together.
Maybe you just want to hang out and write or make art in your spare time! This is the refuge you were looking for and some very cool people living in these parts who thrive on the idea of independence and increasing self-reliance.
Independent Lakeshore guest suite, fully furnished non-smoking suite (2 BR) with unlimited broad-band will be provided. Use of recreational equipment is also available (kayak, canoeing, windsurfing), fishing supplies, etc. There may also be pets on the property (dog and/or cat).
I need a minimum commitment of 3 week (preferably month) WA Volunteer stay to have greatest mutual benefit and to support logistical arrangements. Other separate accommodation unit may be rented so there will likely be other neighbours during your stay with which guest help with cleaning will be needed.
I'll require min. 1 mo notice for last minute travellers. Arrangements can be made for supplementary local travel and accom not included in the WA agreement.

Numerous local cultural events and facilities can be found locally and around the south Peace region, including the ànnual Paddle for the Peace, hiking at the world famous Monkman Falls, mountain trekking or visiting local pioneer history/dinosaur museums, and annual music festivals and art/cultural events through the summer and fall season.
