Hello, my name is Taji, and I am the owner of a sociable guesthouse. The main reason to create this guesthouse was my willingness to speak with people of different cultures from all over the world, to create a place of cultural exchange as, unfortunately, I do not have time to travel. It is a great opportunity for me and my family to know more about the world and also to improve our English. I have been learning English for 2 years and the guesthouse has been a great benefit for my practice.
I live with my wife and my 3 young sons in a house next to the guesthouse. During the day, I am busy running my main business so I don't have much time to manage my guesthouse. That's why help from workawayers is much appreciated. We ask the workawayers to commit for at least 3 weeks, so we have time to know each other. Less time is just too less... We really enjoy spending time together with volunteers and guests. This is not just about to have the work done and that's it, it's something more. So people with curiosity to know new things, with interest in other cultures and meeting other people is very welcome!
We are situated in a beautiful part of the Kumano Kodo, near the Kumano Nachi Taisha, away from busy towns and cities. It's very countryside. There is a lot of nice hikes nearby and a lovely beach. There is also a local tuna market with the most fresh tuna in Japan and lots of onsen in the nearby village (KiiKatsuura).
NOTE: I check regularly the calendar of availability, so it’s always up to date.

Volunteers will experience daily life with a Japanese family becoming one more of the family and will learn a lot about Japanese culture. We have meals together with volunteers so they have the chance to eat lots of homemade japanese food.
Every day we have new guests with who we like to share some conversations while having some drinks. Sometimes we even have a dinner together with the guests in which everybody prepare some typical dish and share with everybody. So you get to meet people from all over the world and learn about their cultures.
It is a beautiful area and a peaceful place to live.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
We ask for 3 kinds of help:
■ COMMUNICATION WITH GUESTS
We are looking for people who are able to communicate efficiently with potential guests, online and in person, and give them advice. Many guests need help with the planification of routes for walking, train connections, what to visit, etc. It is helpful if you can develop a quick understanding of the area and advise guests when necessary.
So a good level of English is essential, spoken and written. Specially written.
It's also good if volunteers have some understanding of japanese culture and habits, in order to explain to guests.
■ CLEANING OF THE GUESTHOUSE
Everyday there are some cleaning duties to be done, like vacuuming and moping floors, dusting, cleaning toilet and bathroom, changing bed sheets, doing the laundry, etc.
This is not a difficult job but requires a high attention to detail, as Japanese standards are very high and that's what customers expect to find.
Since most of our staff speaks very little English, we will give preference to those who have a good level of Japanese (at least N5 level).
Basic cooking skills are required to help out when preparing meals with the family sometimes.
★Please note that we can only accept helpers with valid visa that allow them to work with us (Working holiday visa, student visa, spouse visa) Tourist visa is unfortunately not accepted, due to legal issues.
