    Description

We are a kiwi couple with a small mountain Lodge in Hakuba. We love the outdoors (which is why we have chosen to live here!) and have a young family and a dog.

We will be hiring for Winter in August. Please see below for details about the roles. Please note, we will only accept applications from two people who know eachother already who are willing to share a room.

    **SUMMER**
We are also looking for people who are interested in helping to run the lodge over the summer months. Tasks include cleaning, cooking breakfast, checking guests in and out, gardening etc. The work can be quite sporadic, busy at some times, less busy other times, so having people who are flexible and easy going is a bonus. The summer opportunity is available mid july - mid/end of Sept. If there were people willing to come for the whole time it'd be great. We'd also consider shorter stays, especially in August.

    **WINTER JOBS**
We are looking for energetic, caring people to run our cosy, friendly ski lodge during winter months for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

We are on the hunt for two couples (the rooms have a king/queen bed each, so unfortunately it makes it difficult to host singles. Sorry about that!) The idea is that we have plenty of hands on deck so that you can work less hours, and get maximum snow time. Rather than have full time workers who resent the fact that they can’t get out on the snow, we hope that this arrangement will give everyone a balanced season. Think of it as a “lifestyle job” with approx 20 hours expected work, per week, per person.

The person/people will be happy to help with a range of different tasks.. Including cleaning, driving, cooking, snow shoveling, meeting and greeting guests, taking payments and basically anything that crops up throughout the season to keep the lodge running with happy customers. The team will prepare breakfasts for guests, and provide bar snacks in the evenings. Sometimes there will be busy days, and less busy days, so please be willing to be flexible. Sometimes busy days coincide with powder days… this is something you will need to be OK with (but we will try our best to make sure that you get as much pow as possible).

The minimum time requirement for winter staff is mid-December – mid-March. We will not accept anyone who wishes to start from January. There is a bonus provided to staff once they make it to their finishing date in March.

The ideal people will be excellent with customer service (mainly catering to international guests… often Australians) who are flexible and willing to provide excellent service. It is a small lodge where guests get to know the staff and it’s a friendly vibrant atmosphere. Staff will be willing to help with all tasks. We aim to make sure that everyone gets plenty of time off to enjoy the snow. All staff will need a valid working visa for Japan and an International Driving permit, (and be willing to drive carefully in the snow).

There will be two “teams” meaning that you will usually be working at the same time (and getting the same time off) as your partner. Both teams will be doing the same job, but we will appoint one team to be the more “responsible” team, the one in charge and accountable for rostering, guest management, checking that everything is in order.

All staff will be paid ¥1000 per hour. Accommodation is included and there is a weekly food allowance. The couple with more responsibility will be in a room on the main floor with private ensuite bathroom. The other couple will be in a basement room with the bathroom on a different floor (the shower is for private use, but the toilet is public use).

This is a unique opportunity for those who want to max out their snow time while also getting to experience working a snow season in Hakuba (instead of spending all your hard earned savings!). We are in a central location that is easy walking distance to Happo One ski resort, and just up the Rd from Echoland. The free ski shuttle bus stop is right outside and it’s generally a really nice area to be in.

If you feel like this arrangement would suit you and you can offer what we need, please get in touch!

Hakuba is a wonderland of nature a and outdoor activities. In the summer/autumn there is mountain biking, hiking, rivers and lakes to enjoy. The winter it's a mecca for skiing and snowboarding. We live down a friendly street with close contact with our Japanese neighbours. We are an easy going couple that are keen to share our home and local knowledge with like minded and helpful travellers (we are travellers and have done workaway ourselves in the past, so we get what you're up to).
