    Description

    Hello there!

We're a family of human beings, Ana, Ale and our baby, and 2 cats, Fletchie and Micio.

We have very recently (2025) found the piece of land we have been dreaming of for years and have committed to being its guardians.

The farm needs a lot of love and care, as it was abandoned for some years. There's around 1ha of land, one part with an olive grove and fruit trees, another with oaks and plenty of fresh water from the ground!

Biodiversity and Regeneration are key elements to our presence here.

Our long term vision is of an Agroforest, a haven for all Beings.
A Lab for the Self, the Community and the Planet.
A space to share, learn and care.

The farm is located in São Mamede Natural Park, where beautiful countryside sites and many beautiful nature trails to walk and cycle await you.

Nearby, there is a spot on the river to swim or enjoy the sound of fresh water flowing.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We're a family of Portuguese and Italian and the local community is very multicultural.

There are plenty of activities going on in the area. We can give more details if you're curious.

We've lived in different countries and have worked and volunteered with people of many different backgrounds. Learning from each other is something we appreciate about meeting other humans.

We'll be happy to go together to some events, as long as it's compatible with our baby's schedule :)

The region has a high concentration of dolmens, rock-hewn tombs, passage mounds and megaliths and an enchanting landscape, with its chsetnut trees and granite rocks.

There are beautiful villages to visit, such as Marvão, Castelo de Vide and Beirã. Marvão is a mediaval village within the walls of the castle, on top of the hill, with stuning views. Castelo de Vide is also an historical village, with it's narrow streets in the old town and a lively centre.

    Help

There are plenty of opportunities here to learn and contribute with your skills.

Right now, the main focus in creating a comfortable place to live and share life with others.
The house has 2 bathrooms, but we are starting a compost toilet building project.

Getting the vegetable garden going is a priority! As we arrived to the land recently and were focused first on our baby and housing conditions, the vegetable garden has been waiting for the Springtime to come to life!

Sometimes we will go away to visit family, so house-sitting is also needed in these periods.

You'll be supporting both or one of us while doing tasks and we're happy to count with your ideas.

These are some ideas, from which we define together what serves best in that moment:

    >>Tending to the land and the plants (depending on the Season)
Cutting grass, creating and maintaining a vegetable garden, pruning trees, collecting fruits/olive harvest, cleaning the land from microplastics, ...

    >>Support to the family
Help with house shores, caring for our cats, food processing, shopping, ...

    >>DiY projects
Support with different tasks that come along on a farm's daily life.

If you have a green thumb or are inspired by arts, we welcome you're initiative to propose a project that we can do together.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

At the moment , accommodation is in our dear camper.

It's cosy and equipped with a kitchen, parked away from the main building, under oak trees. You may use the extra bathroom on the ground floor of the main building, and/or, if it's ready when you come (it's a work in progress), the compost toilet. If you need a fridge it's also there, with independent access. Depending on the developments of the works in the common kitchen, it could also be used.

There's hot water in the main building.

If you prefer camping with a tent or are coming with your camper, that's also possible.

We're open to discuss how to organise the food: a mix of independent meals and sharing some of the meals would be good.
Our diet is mainly plant based, but we eat chicken and fish sometimes. Ana is inspired by macrobiotics and Ayurveda and Ale by Italian cuisine, but we love to try food from different cultures and learn new recipes.
If house-sitting, food is not included, according to workaway.

    Space for parking camper vans

The road is good enough to support tractors and small trucks and it's good to medium sized campervans. There's space on the land to park and, if it's more comfortable for you, there are facilities on the ground level that you may use - bathroom with shower and toilet, washing machine (the common kitchen is on the way to be ready).

    Profile photo of Micio

    Micio (3 years)

Micio is a very soft, loving ball of hair :) He's a son of Fletchie and has altered mobility, a consequence of an infection that affected him as a kitty, but he walks, jumps, goes down and up the stairs and is very healthy. He loves to cuddle and pretend that he hunts.

Profile photo of Fletchie (Ms. Fletcher)

    Fletchie (Ms. Fletcher) (7 years)

Fletchie is a very kind, wise and experienced cat. She is very independent and goes for strolls at her own wish, spending most of the day out. She also enjoys a good nap in a comfortable blanket and, at her own pace, appreciates being petted.
