Description
Our family (Rowita, Marcel, Doria and Arthur) has chosen to live in the countryside to live closer to nature and contribute to the local biodiversity. We are slowly turning a meadow into a place where animals can find a place to live, save from industrial agriculture. We grow food in our vegetable garden and we plant more and more edible plants and trees. For income, Rowita runs short term rental in our garden and Marcel is a teacher in a nearby city. We live in a very small house, to limit our consumption. We've always loved to travel and meet like-minded people over the world. This is why we like to host you and to make you part of our family for some time.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have experience with many parts of self-sufficiency. Living with us, you will learn when and how to sow, take care for crops and how to preserve the harvest through winter. We're also skilled in the kitchen, to prepare a variety of healthy 'slow-food' meals. Of course we're also 'experts' of our country, we've also lived in the bigger cities before we settled in the countryside.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
With all projects we do around the house, help is always welcome. It is mostly maintaining the vegetable garden (sowing / harvesting / weeding, etc.). We're also always working on some kind of construction project. We have children and for them it's great to have someone around that inspires them. They are very energetic and love creative activities.

We have a neat 8m2 room in the barn next to our house. It has windows facing the garden. There is electric heating and there is a sink to provide water. The bathroom is in our house, just next to it, which is shared with us. You can decorate your own room as you like.
What else ...
We're situated in a rural province with a lot of nature for different types of outdoor activities. Getting around with public transport is not easy, but is doable. We have a bike and it's 5min to the bus stop. But there is also often a solution that we'd bring you to the nearest train station (15 min). With the train you can easily visit other parts of The Netherlands or Germany.

From day one, Camila was proactive and supportive. It was easy to agree with each other on the weekly tasks. During the months, we quickly grew together as friends. We really ran the household together. Very naturally she… read more
