    Description

Hello lovely people, I am your host Matias, 38 years young from Denmark. I live in a small community together with two old friends and some other good friends that own the land next to us. There are 3 other communities (in total, we are around 50 people) based in the same grand, beautiful valley in central Portugal, among forests, mountains, and a wonderful river, loads of crystals and pure cristalline water.
We wish to create a sacred space for healing and our own personal development, where we can live in peace, grow our food and take care of the earth and nature around us.

We have about 4 hectares of land in total and we are still in the process of creating basic infrastructure, planting gardens, making orchards and building little houses. We wish to live as self-sufficient as possible.

We come from Denmark and are very easy going, hard working, honest and open minded people and welcome all those who wish to work in making this world into a better place. We expect you to be kind and respectful.

Here you can find a nice place to go down to the basics and explore the offered adventure, reconnect with nature, learn by doing, eat healthy and relax while connecting with nice open-hearted people. As we are situated in the mountains and close to a river, in your free time you can go swimming or hiking.

We are looking for independent and dynamic Workawayers who can do things on their own and can find their way around. If you could stay long-term, it would be greatly appreciated as we are looking for someone who can help us with all around tasks here and there.

For accommodation, we can offer you a little cozy, fire-heated wooden cabin, that you can make into your little home while you are here. Note that the cabin is only equipped with basic furniture and has no electricity or running water! You can, however, always charge your devices in the shared kitchen and take a bottle of water with you from there. You might also have to share the cabin with another volunteer if there are a lot of people coming at the same time.
In the summer, you might have to sleep in a big and cozy tent!

We would like you to stay for a minimum of four weeks, so that you have sufficient time to settle in and learn all the different practices.

Our working hours are from 9am to 2pm during the week and we expect you to manage your own tasks. You are, of course, free on the weekends. On some days the work might be harder than on others, but in general it is hard physical work, so you should have a certain basic level of fitness and bring good work ethics.

We have 5 families and 3 other communities as neighbours in the same big valley, with a lot of children and animals. Since we wish to respect their privacy, please don't pop up uninvited.
As we are a children friendly environment with a healthy lifestyle, we ask our guests to respect our „no drugs and only small amounts of alcohol“-policy. We ain’t no saints, and we do enjoy a good party ;) he he, but not every day and in moderation.

Please remember to bring good working gear: clothes that can (and definitely will!) get dirty, a pair of solid boots, rain clothes, a headlamp and warm clothes, too. While it can be sunny with 20°C at the end of November, there can be some chilly nights and rainy days. Here in the mountains, the temperature changes between day and night can be quite drastic, even in the summer. Hence, we ask you to be prepared for that!
You won‘t need to bring any bedsheets, but we do expect you to bring your own towels.

If you have any questions - don't hesitate to ask!

For the winter season, we offer a little wooden cabin that you can share with other Workawayers. In the summer, you can be accomodated in one of the cabins or in a tent.

We have lunch together around 2pm from Monday to Friday. You can cook whatever you want for breakfast and dinner. All the food will be provided. Please remember that our big shared kitchen is strictly vegan! However, you can eat whatever you want in your little cabin or tent. The latter you will have to pay for yourself, though.

    What else ...

We are based in a beautiful valley in central Portugal, among forests, mountains, a wonderful river, lots of crystals and pure cristalline water. Note that we are in a rather remote location. The closest supermarket is a half an hour-drive away.

3 km away you will find Vila Longa, from where you can take the bus. The closest villages you can find about 25-30 minutes away by car, Penalva Do Castello or Sátão. There are cafés, restaurants, shops and stores. About 45 minutes away by car you can find the city Viseu.

In your time off, you can go hiking, swim in the river, go search for crystals or visit the nearby abandoned miner‘s town. You are welcome to bring your favorite book, draw or play some music (we have a guitar, for example).

We look forward to hearing from you :)!
