We are a Japanese / Canadian couple. We love to travel, explore and stay active (we surf, snowboard, hike, cycle...). We spend winters in the mountains and summers by the sea. We are able to live our dream by sharing our life-style and space with like-minded budget travelers, and workawayers like you! In summers we run 2 small guest-houses , a rental cottage, and a reception area / outdoor chill space, all walking distance from the beach.

We promise plenty of time to explore and experience the area. We live near the sea! Enjoy fishing, surfing, body-boarding, hiking along the rugged coast line or spend your days chilling on the beach. Although we live in a beach town and get plenty of tourists, the town, especially our neighborhood has a real local vibe. Everyone here grows their own veggies and has their own rice paddy. Small unattended veggie stands along the road lets you have your share for cheap and sometimes free! I've seen ¥0 leeks for "sale"! Locals are friendly and are likely to greet everyone with a "konichiwa".
This host offers accommodation and payment.
Workawayers tasks and hours depend on the time you would be joining us, and skills you have to share. We will need some help with housekeeping, room-making, gardening, and general maintenance. Anyone good at bicycle maintenance could help us keep our bikes rolling. Graphic designers, writers, photographers, chefs, painters, carpenters, also needed.
Experienced gardeners most welcome.
A MESSAGE REGARDING CORONA:
-We expect to be slow, with few to no guests so we hope to find people with creative skills, all kinds! If you have skills to share, tell us about it and send us pics or links to photos! We'd love to see your work.
-We are taking extra precautions, not only for our safety but also to protect our community. We expect everyone to wear a mask outside the house, wash hands upon return, we use alcohol for hands and throughout buildings.
-We prefer to have people joining us from the country side and will ask you not to commute through or from the Tokyo area.
We prefer to have people who can commit to 4 weeks or more, but shorter stays may be considered.
PLEASE NOTE: For general house-keeping, maintenance, cafe help, etc. we ask for a 4 week commitment
PLEASE NOTE: For people with special skills who can independently work on specific projects we ask for 2 week commitment
PLEASE NOTE: For shorter stays we will only consider applicants on a last minute basis. (please contact us 2 weeks prior possible arrival date)
PLEASE NOTE: We are CLOSED from October until March. We DON'T need helpers at that time. Check our calendar first!
Summer 2020: We will not have any paid positions available. We have already closed one of our guesthouses and we expect business to be much slower than usual and therefore would like to host people with various skills. At the moment we have no guests, we have been keeping busy painting, gardening, sewing, testing new recipes in the kitchen, fixing bicycles, .... When we do have guests we will have house-keeping duties, and we are thinking about re-opening the cafe next month, perhaps we will be open 2 or 3 days a week.

We are tucked into a green valley surrounded by mountains and trees. The Izu Peninsula is hilly and rugged, and UNESCO geo-park. We live on the side of a valley, the road to the driveway is not paved. Nature abounds! We see wild boar almost daily. If you are afraid of insects or other creatures this is not the best place for you. If you have trouble walking/cycling uphill this is not the place for you.
