Next available date to host a new couple of WorkAwayers is from Mid September 2020 to the End of October.
Minimum stay in Giaveno is one month, a nice time to get to know each other, explore the area and help us with the Garden and the paintings.
Ciao Everybody... We are Pierpaolo/Pippo and Cristiana both 56y, very young at heart and in our way of living.
We have been hosting WorkAwayers in the last 5 years and we are still very excited about the wonderful young people who have lived with us in Giaveno for a while. We have built a network with our WorkAwayers and we keep in touch through a whatsapp group which allows us all to follow one another, build new cross friendships and follow the new adventures coming after staying with us. It's becoming a little community of proactive young people sending information from all over the world. We can proudly say that WorkAway has meant a lot to us and we have given a lot back to our Young Travelers.
Our original families include Pierpaolo’s 5 sons aged 20-28y and Cristiana's only 18y son.
The 6 boys are spread around Italy and Europe for their studies and jobs.
We live in Pierpaolo's family house, an historical huge home with gardens renovated by Pippo in the nineties. Casa Gonin takes its name from the previous owner, the painter Francesco Gonin (second half of 1800).
The house is very big and the WorkAwayers live in a private part dedicated to them.
As an architect Pippo travels a lot and this year is also involved in the activity of the farm run by 3 of his boys near Genova, Cristiana is mainly in charge of the daily routine in the house and she takes care and plans the schedule with the WorkAwayers. Very often she spends half week in Milano with her son and her photography, therefore it is important to host couples who are positive, cheerful but very organized and full of initiatives
About our place and the surroundings. What the WorkAwayers will find in Giaveno:
The house is placed in front of the little church at la Buffa of Giaveno and as we were saying it was built in 1700 and gently frescoed by the painter Francesco Gonin
The village of La Buffa (means 'cheerful') is only 10 min walk from the city centre of Giaveno, a lively little town which offers street markets every week-end and farmers market every day. You can find everything there or take a 40 min bus
to Torino. They run regularly and the bus stop is quite close down the road.
If you wish to take a walk 4,5 km (or take a bus), passing by 2 beautiful little lakes, you get to the Medieval town of Avigliana, where you find the station and direct trains to Torino city centre (half hour trip).
Very close is the Sacra di San Michele, a very important touristic site.
The Piedmont Region is an interesting area to explore with lakes and mountains nearby: Valle di Susa/Sestriere/ Montgenèvre/France/Frejus Tunnel.
The town of Torino, the old capital of the Reign of Italy, is full of Castles, Museums and old palaces worth more than a visit.
A mix of culture, nature, good food and special wines will offer you a full experience of the Italian way of life.
We prefer to host smily and relaxed couples, better if speaking/understanding Italian, they will live in their separate house and have time for their own...
Are you good at arts and craft works? Painting and repairing never finish in a big house...
The lovely garden, the inside/outside of the mansion needs quite a lot of maintenance, the workawayers will never get bored, although they are used to cover some daily activities in a very easygoing way.
Please tell us if you have gardening/agricultural and handiwork/painting attitude.
Cristiana is a photographer of events mostly golf tournaments, travelling around North Italy, Milano/Torino/Como, mother of Filippo 18 (the boy who improved his English magically after hosting Workawayers)
Pierpaolo is an architect working with the restoration of ancient buidings, he is quite busy following his jobs and he's travelling around Piemonte and Liguria region. He is father of Giovanni, Emanuele, Costantino, Tito and Pietro. The last 2 are living most of the time in Torino and visiting occasionally.
Not to forget the our dog Punch ready to welcome and 2 crazy little cats Leo&Nino.
We offer a peaceful countryside close to the Alps with fresh air. Running, trekking, biking, swimming, sailing are easy to practice.
About our Workawayers' separate home...
We host in a separate flat with bedroom, bathroom and living with kitchen. Couples are more than welcome as they can spend time privately, plan and cook their meals and relax in the evenings. From time to time we are able to share lunch and dinners and we enjoy it very much.
The exchanging experience will then include gardening and trimming, painting blinds, watering vases and some general care around the house/courtyards (sweeping, dusting, hovering).
Your presence in the house is very precious especially when Pippo&Cris are traveling: keeping an eye and some company to the cats, and feed them 2/3 times per day.
Another plan (when Covid'19 is over) is to promote a little hosting activity in part of the house, we'll be happy to count on the Workawayers' skills to teach us how to improve with the use of social networks.
