    Description

Hi, I'm Rubén, a Spanish guy who has been living in Sri Lanka for the past 12 years. After a long journey, I finally fulfilled my dream of running my own kitesurfing school in Kalpitiya.

From the first time I arrived in this country, I was amazed — and that’s why I decided to stay. What I love most about this place is the friendliness of the local people and their relaxed way of life. I’m also passionate about nature, and in Kalpitiya I’ve found almost everything I enjoy doing.

I learned to kitesurf in Kalpitiya while building wooden bungalows. Later, I became an instructor and eventually opened an IKO-certified kitesurfing school here in Sri Lanka.

I started this project 10 years ago, and it has grown to the point where we now welcome kiters from all over the world. After many years, our kite camp has developed, and these days I travel back and forth between Spain and Sri Lanka with my wife and baby a couple of times a year.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our kite school is located in a remote area of Sri Lanka. We are located in a very traditional and humble neighborhood. We are always interacting with our local workers and neighbors and you can learn a lot from them. We would like you to interact with our local community so that you can learn more about what Sri Lankans are like and how they think, and at the same time, they can also learn something from you. Our wish is a win-win situation between you and the local community.

It is also a good opportunity to learn the daily operation of a kitesurf school and how to run a kitesurfing camp. The more you get involved, the more you can learn. We also have bicycles that you can use for free to get around the area. Please note that we cannot exchange this volunteer project for kitesurfing lessons.

From December to March, the wind blows constantly in Kalpitiya and it is the perfect time to come kitesurfing. We kitesurf in flat and shallow waters in Kalpitiya Lagoonb, perfect conditions to learn, which is why we are located in the best place in Asia for kitesurfing.

Before heading out for kitesurfing, we organize a one-hour yoga class on our terrace overlooking the lagoon, and after kiting, before sunset, we also offer yoga. We’re looking for a yoga instructor who would like to guide these daily sessions. It’s just 2 hours a day, usually around 7–8 AM and 5–6 PM, depending on the wind conditions.

This volunteer opportunity is ideal for a yoga instructor who also enjoys kitesurfing, as Kalpitiya is mostly about wind and water — there aren’t many other activities around besides kitesurfing.

NO HELP REQUIRED IN THE KITCHEN AND RESTAURANT (Our Sri Lankan staff takes care of the restaurant. If you want to learn how to cook Sri Lankan food or show the local community some recipes from your country, you are welcome :) After kitesurfing and dinner, you can spend some time with the guests so they have a good time.

In total, we have 10 local employees working with us and it would be great if you shared your experiences and knowledge with them.

If you are interested, you can contact us.

(Please note that we cannot exchange this volunteer project for kitesurfing lessons or rentals)

    Thank you,
    Ruben
