    Description

It's been a wild few years, and we are looking at so much work that is needed here on the land. We recently went through multiple snow storms so we are still in a bit of snow, ( we had 6 ft in some places!), which is why I've placed our first openings beginning in May. That said, you can contact us in earlier and see how it looks at that point.

We do need skillful help as we had damage to the house and deck plus a multitude of trees down as well. You wouldn't be doing anything dangerous, and would have plenty of assistance and direction. We are looking at building a new deck, possible reroofing of the cabin you would be staying in and cleaning up the tree debris around the land.

We continue to be Covid conscious as we are elders and appreciate your consideration in that direction.

We are older artisans living our dream deep in the woods north of Nevada City, CA. We work every day on various art and machine projects either for ourselves or our clients. Barbara engages her daily spiritual practice with prayers and flowers upon the land in gratitude for this precious and tender life we are given. Among a myriad of other artistic endeavors, including painting, woodworking, machinist, jeweler, Nik is a author and has written 16 novels (8 in print).

We believe in extending ourselves in generosity, kindness, authenticity and clear communication with whoever we are interacting with in our daily lives. We strive to be able to look back on our responses to people and situations with a sense of appreciation for doing the best that we could and making amends when we fell short. We are oldering with as much grace as possible in these fragile times we are living, and our commitment to integrity and respect infused with laughter is pretty fine medicine indeed.

Additionally, The Forest of Wild Joy and Verdant Delight where we are blessed to live, is quite deep medicine And the Wild and Scenic Yuba River is just 1.5 miles. (though this year, extreme caution will be needed with the flow from the snowpack and rains.)

Our cozy home sits upon 4.5 acres of deep forest that is always in need of maintenance, digging out blackberries, weeding, brushing, burn piles, cutting and stacking/chopping firewood, digging trenches for irrigation, construction repairs etc. We are looking for strong, hard-working individuals to help us in our projects. We expect that our WA will show up and work hard 3 hours a day, 5 days a week with a cheerful attitude of team-work and willingness to pitch in where needed. We will not ask you to do anything dangerous or beyond your capability(unless you ask to learn a specific task), but you will get dirty and work up a sweat during your hours. If this doesn't sound like what you want, please do not inquire about a spot. We have a limited amount of space to accommodate one or two WA so we need to have folks who are able and interested in helping out with enthusiasm and diligence.

    What else ...

There is plenty of hiking along the Yuba River canyon, swimming in the river itself during summer, fishing, gold panning, organic farms, visiting the local gold rush historical sites and countless restaurants. The area has 2 big natural food stores, four movie theaters and two live theater venues. Town has a musician or two in almost every restaurant and street corner. Visit our art galleries, curio shops, clothing stores or come during an event at the Nevada County fairgrounds and listen to the endless list of famous bands and musicians who visit regularly. There is public transportation in town and taxi and uber service to our property. Best to have your own car to stay with us. The cabin is 50 feet from our house and we live a peaceful life, so quiet, respectful and friendly is foremost in our prerequisites for workawayers. No smoking indoors and no animals(our woods are full of them!). Quiet after 9:30pm inside and outside.
