    Description

Hi! We are a family living at homestead , a growing permaculture and regenerative living project in the Portuguese countryside, in Portugal's beautiful Silver Coast.

I a language and permaculture teacher, and we enjoy sharing knowledge, learning from others and meeting people from different cultures.

This is our family's long-term homestead project rather than a commercial farm. We are creating a food forest, growing organic vegetables for ourselves and the farm's community, restoring the land and developing ecological projects such as a natural swimming pond.
Another family also lives on the property, creating a small and friendly community where we enjoy sharing ideas, experiences and simple rural life.
We host Workawayers because we believe in cultural exchange, learning and working together. Visitors join us in the projects we are doing ourselves, sharing experiences, knowledge and everyday life on the homestead.

We are looking for positive, curious and respectful people who enjoy nature, simple living and becoming part of our journey for a while.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We believe Workaway is about genuine cultural exchange, learning and sharing experiences.

Volunteers can learn about organic gardening, fruit trees, irrigation systems, composting, regenerative agriculture and practical DIY projects. We are happy to share both our successes and our mistakes as we continue developing the farm.

We enjoy meeting people from different countries, exchanging ideas, recipes, languages and life experiences. We often spend time together around meals, walks around the property, visits to local markets or trips to the nearby coast.

Our location offers a chance to experience authentic rural Portugal while still being close to beaches, cafés and local towns. The nearest village is within walking distance and public transport is available nearby.

We hope to learn from our guests' skills, cultures and perspectives while creating meaningful connections and friendships along the way.

  • Help

    Help

Help varies depending on the season, weather and current projects.

    Typical tasks include:

    • Organic gardening and vegetable growing
    • Planting and caring for fruit trees in our developing food forest
    • Mulching, composting and soil improvement
    • General farm help and land regeneration projects
    • Helping with the creation of our future ecological swimming pond
    • Occasional DIY, woodworking and natural building projects
    • Caring for paths, fences and outdoor spaces

Most tasks are outdoors and we work together whenever possible. We are happy to share what we know about organic growing, permaculture, irrigation, fruit trees, tools and life on a small farm in Portugal.

No previous farming experience is required, but a positive attitude, willingness to learn and reasonable physical fitness are important.

We especially appreciate people who can work independently, take initiative and enjoy practical hands-on projects.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Volunteers stay in a private caravan located on the farm, offering privacy and a peaceful countryside atmosphere.

The caravan includes a double bed, a bunk bed, electricity, a small kitchenette and a refrigerator. A hot shower is available inside the caravan.

As part of our sustainability approach, we use ecological compost toilet facilities located just outside the caravan.

Fresh organic vegetables from the farm are available whenever in season, and we provide basic groceries and cooking essentials. Volunteers can prepare their own meals in the caravan kitchen.

The farm is surrounded by nature and is a very peaceful place to relax and disconnect. There are walking trails in the area and a seasonal stream with a small waterfall nearby during the wetter months.

The nearest village is within walking distance, and there is a bus stop nearby with connections to local towns and the coast. Praia da Areia Branca is about 15 minutes away by car.

We also have a wood-fired sauna on the property, and volunteers are welcome to join us when we occasionally organize sauna evenings.

Bedding, blankets and towels are provided.

We provide fresh vegetables from our homestead together with all the basic groceries needed to prepare three meals a day, including items such as bread, rice, pasta, eggs, milk, fruit and other everyday ingredients. Volunteers have their own private kitchenette and can cook whenever they like. Whenever possible, we also enjoy sharing meals together, as we believe this is one of the best parts of the cultural exchange.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Couples are especially welcome, as the private caravan setup works very well for two people. Friends travelling together are also welcome, and the caravan can comfortably accommodate up to three adults.

Our lifestyle is simple, relaxed and nature-oriented. We appreciate people who are respectful, independent and comfortable living in a rural environment.

Having your own car is convenient but not necessary, as there is a village within walking distance and public transport nearby.

Most activities take place outdoors and involve practical physical work.

Travellers with their own campervan or motorhome may also be welcome, depending on availability and the season. We have plenty of space, as well as access to water and electricity. Our village also has a motorhome service point where travellers can empty waste tanks and access additional facilities. Please contact us before arrival so we can discuss the best setup.

We have a friendly and sociable White Swiss Shepherd dog who lives on the property and enjoys meeting new people. She spends most of her time outdoors and is often happy to keep volunteers company around the farm. Well-behaved pets are welcome, provided they are friendly, under control and respectful of the environment. We ask owners to ensure that pets do not damage gardens or cultivated areas, chase wildlife, or disturb neighbours and other residents on the property.
