Description
Join us at our emerging homestead in the middle of Djursland, if you are fed up with capitalists and imperialists destroying the livable conditions of our planet.
We are a family of three (Sofiya, Thomas and our son Daniel) who gave up our urban lives and our jobs (at a university and a library in the UK) shortly after the outbreak of Covid-19 and moved to the Danish countryside to grow vegetables, plant trees, learn to live with animals, and forge relations with other humans who are skeptical about technocratic solutions to climate crisis and biodiversity loss.
We live about 2 kilometers from the village of Nimtofte on 3,6 ha of land. Some of it is protected beech wood, some is riparian lowland dominated by red alder, the rest is hillside fields, part of which we are planning to turn into a forest garden. We are interested in permaculture, foraging and low-tech approaches to countryside living.
Currently we have a flock of hens, some runner ducks, and a - shared with two neighboring families - a few grazing Dexter cows. The latter are part of a nature preservation project we are running in cooperation with the local municipality.
We are already growing a substantial part of our own food, but would like to expand to the point where we can help feed the local community. We are new to this, however, so there´s still a lot to learn, design and organize.
Depending on the time of year, you will find yourself sowing, planting, mulching, weeding, cutting wood, harvesting, saving seeds, planting trees and bushes, cooking, preserving, together with us.
Most of the food we provide is organic, and currently we do not eat meat. Occasionally we eat fish.
We prefer our volunteers to stay at least a week.Types of help and learning opportunities

There are many opportunities for cultural exchange here. We are a talkative family who enjoy lively discussions about politics, education, art, language and nature, among other things. We also like playing music and a variety of games, in and out. Developing and sharing practical skills and knowledge about homesteading, gardening and cooking with friends and neighbors is also a big part of our daily life.
There are plenty opportunities for playing and resting too: we have a decent library of books, including books for children, primarily in English and Danish, but some in German, Ukrainian and Russian as well. Besides books, we love music and singing. Sofiya plays the piano and Daniel plays trumpet and drums. You are more than welcome to bring an instrument if you can.
The area is great for cycling and walking. The nearest train station is 5 km away; from here you can reach the urban environment of Aarhus in less than one hour or you can go to the seaside near Grenå.
You are very welcome to come with kids. Our son is ten years old and an imaginative and fun playmate.Help
