  Description

  We are a Zen Buddhist community being established in the Serra Gaúcha region of Brazil. Our current focus is on generating sustainability for the practice center, as well as creating the conditions to construct the temple and other buildings that comprise the project. To this end, we created a Shukubô concept, a Japanese concept of lodging in a Buddhist temple. In January 2026, we completed our first cabin and began receiving guests.
  
  We also cultivate organic food through the implementation of agroforestry systems, beekeeping, vegetable gardens, orchards, among others.
  
  We do not have permanent employees. We occasionally hire day laborers or service providers. The maintenance of the project is essentially carried out by the community members who live here and those who come to collaborate for periods of time. Currently, we are two residents, both monastic.
  
  Regarding the spirit of Taiheiji, we often say that, "more than a Buddhist community, we are Buddhists in the community." We seek interaction with local residents and with all people interested in exchanging experiences, deep connection, and genuine bonds.

  Somos uma comunidade zen-budista sendo instalada na serra gaúcha (). Nosso foco, no momento, é gerar sustentabilidade do centro de prática, bem como criar condições de construir o templo e demais prédios que compõe o projeto. Com este fim criamos a Morada dos Monges (@moradadosmonges), uma proposta de Shukubô, conceito japonês de hospedagem em templo budista. Em janeiro de 2026 concluimos nossa primeira cabana e começamos a receber hóspedes.
  
  Também cultivamos alimentos orgânicos através da implantação de SAF (Sistema Agroflorestal), apicultura, hortas, pomares, entre outros.
  
  Não temos funcionários fixos. Eventualmente contratamos diaristas ou prestadores de serviço. A manutenção do projeto, essencialmente, é realizada pelos membros da comunidade que vivem aqui e aqueles que vem por períodos colaborar. Atualmente somos dois residentes, ambos monásticos.
  
  Quanto ao espírito do Taiheiji, costumamos dizer que, "mais que uma comunidade budista, somos budistas na comunidade". Buscamos interação com os moradores locais e com todas as pessoas que se interessam por trocas de experiências, convívio profundo e vínculos verdadeiros.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  The traveler will be able to learn about subjects related to life in the countryside, growing food and gardening, caring for nature, healthy living, a little cooking, home care and experiencing community life. In addition, the volunteer will have the opportunity to learn about the Taiheiji style of practicing Zen Buddhism.
  
  O viajante poderá aprender sobre assuntos relacionados à vida no campo, cultivo de alimentos e jardinagem, cuidados com a natureza, vida saudável, um pouco de culinária, cuidados com a casa e experienciar a vida em comunidade.
  Além disso o voluntário vai ter a oportunidade de conhecer o estilo Taiheiji de praticar o zen-budismo.

  Help

  Our routine is general maintenance of the garden plantations, SAF (agroforestry system), gardens, small chicken coop, general maintenance of the facilities we already have, domestic services (house cleaning and cooking) and construction of new facilities, such as chalets and other buildings. that make up the Taiheiji project (Temple, accommodation, dining hall, etc...).
  
  Nossa rotina é manutenção geral dos plantios de horta, SAF (sistema agroflorestal), jardins, manutenção geral das instalações que já temos, serviços domésticos (limpeza da casa e cozinhar) e construção das novas instalações, como os chalés e demais prédios que compõem o projeto Taiheiji (Templo, alojamento, refeitório, etc...).

  Accommodation

  Shared room for two people. Shared bathrooms in the house. Common kitchen and dining area. Excellent quality Wi-Fi. We offer three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), but they are vegetarian. We have no restrictions on those who eat meat; however, it is up to each person. Remember that the property is 24 hectares, with ponds, native forest area, and a beautiful view of the mountains.

  Quarto compartilhado para duas pessoas. Banheiros coletivos na própria casa. Cozinha e refeitório comum. Wi-fi de qualidade excelente. Oferecemos três refeições (desjejum, almoço e janta), porém são vegetarianas. Não temos restrições com quem coma carne, entretanto fica a cargo de cada um. Lembrando que a área que temos é de 24ha, com açudes, área de mata nativa e uma linda vista para as montanhas.

  We are close to tourist cities in the Serra Gaúcha: São Francisco de Paula, Canela, Gramado and the Itaimbezinho and Fortaleza canyons. In addition to the city of Três Coroas, which hosts rafting championships and the Tibetan Buddhist Temple Chagdud Gonpa Khadro Ling. There are buses nearby and the possibility of taking a taxi or Uber with the contacts we have on servers. In addition, Taiheiji itself is a pleasant place to be, rest, enjoy nature, walk around or read a book.

  Estamos próximo a cidades turísticas da serra gaúcha: São Francisco de Paula, Canela, Gramado e dos Cânions Itaimbezinho e Fortaleza. Além da cidade de Três Coroas que sedia campeonatos de rafting e o Templo Budista Tibetano Chagdud Gonpa Khadro Ling. Há ônibus próximo e possibilidade de pegar taxi ou Uber com contatos que temos de servidores. Além disso, o próprio Taiheiji é um local agradável de se estar, descansar, curtir a natureza, caminhar nos arredores ou ler um livro.
