    Who are we?

    The school is a privately run, independent, nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that teaches English to the people of Taltal and this year a new school opened in Monte Patria! We welcome students from all walks of life, ranging from young children and teenagers, to housewives and professionals. The ultimate goal is to assist in educational, economically sustainable development and foster greater self-esteem in the people of our community.
    Founded in 2013, we opened our doors to the community in June of that same year. Through the selfless generosity of supporters to our innovative "Secret Friends" scheme, we have been able to implement this large and ambitious project.
    Through our carefully selected volunteers we are able to offer extensive experience and knowledge in the fields of arts, sports, agriculture, communication, and languages from all corners of the world.
    While most language schools, work from a principle based on 4 skills, (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking), the experiences of our foreign volunteers allows us to add a fifth skill- Culture. We embrace the ideology of the TAYLOR MADE + and RUDOLF Steiner (Waldorf) programs, while also including the additional benefit of being able to interact with native English speakers. This affords our students the unique opportunity to sample a taste of cultures and nationalities that could otherwise be beyond their reach.
    This school helps to increase the skills of young professionals and aims to help to reduce economic and social gaps. In turn it strives to increase the employer-employee relationships, harmonizing their skills and abilities. Improving levels of communication will facilitate growth and the generation of business opportunities for everyone.

    Location Background
    The volunteer are based in Taltal and Monte Patria. The first one is a small city located about 198 kilometers from Antofagasta the capital city of the second region in Chile, which is a province in the north of Chile. Taltal was the most important sea port in the north of Chile early 20´s, being the capital of the nitrate in the world.
    Today, Taltal is considered a remote destination and while there are modern facilities, it is still very limited and can be quite isolated. It has a population of 15,000. The climate is temperate although sometimes it can be hot in summer and cold in winter.
    Our School of English facilities are located in the city centre, opposite to the main square and the main method of transportation will be bike or taxis (Standard fee USD$2.00)

    The second one, Monte Patria, is located almost in the middle of our country, about 87 kilometers from La Serena which on the Coquimbo Region. The most common way of life to find in Monte Patria is horticulture, and it is located in the beautiful Limarí Valley with extense rivers and hills. The closest city (medium size city) is Ovalle. On the day can be very hot, but during the night and in the morning get really cold, even more on winter. Classess will take place on downtown. Main methods of transportation are small buses or bike.

    About the place where our volunteer will stay;

    All the volunteers will stay in a basic house with all they need, (hot room etc) and will share a room with another volunteer. There will be all the times 4 volunteers in Taltal and 2 volunteers at the time in Monte Patria.
