My husband Ciaran and I (Eimear) are a couple in our 30's with a 2yo Daithí and a 4yo, Tom). We live in Spiddal along the Wild Atlantic Way in Galway with our 10yo rescue dog Shera, a looper of a cat called Missy and chickens! Our garden is a labour of love and was very overgrown when we moved in so we're slowly but surely making it our own! I'm the main gardener and with Tom and Daithí taking up most of my time now, the garden has become very neglected this year. Over Spring and Summer of 2024, I'm hoping to get help with the boys and assistance to clear out parts of the garden, especially my neglected veggie beds and maybe even make a little treehouse for Tom and Daithi :)

We live approx. 10 min walk from Spiddal beach and village. Spiddal is a beautiful scenic Irish speaking village in the west of Ireland located approx. 18km from Galway city. There is a great bus service just a ten-minute walk from our house and Spiddal is a great base for heading further into Connemara!

Help
I would ideally like to find a couple who have woodwork skills as we need to make raised veggie beds and fencing, gardening/horticulture skills and experience with babies, young children and dogs! Tom and Daithí are energetic boys who adore being outdoors and playing, they love new company and anyone who has the energy to keep up with them!
We treat our two boys respectfully and expect anyone in our home to have patience and a calm, gentle approach in all day to day living with them. They are very kind loving boys and we thankfully very seldom have to scold them, but when we do it's with good intentions. No screaming at kids or threatening them in our home :)
You are arriving in rainy Galway, so please make sure you have suitable weatherproof clothes and your own gardening gloves/work clothes.Languages spoken

Accommodation
A double bedroom with WiFi. We can provide food or depending on how many hours worked or whether you would like to cook as part of work exchange, you can cook/store your own food.
With all previous Workawayers, we have provided breakfast, lunch and dinner.
You're welcome to store your own snacks/beverages (out of sight from our scavenger boys!)What else ...
With a 2yo and a 4yo we are living pretty boring lives at the moment :)
We go to bed early (ish - around 9pm or so, in order to be able to function in the morning, as our boys like to get up with the sun! A quiet house is needed after the boys go to bed around 7:30. Our home is a family home not a hostel :)
We are relatively sociable and chatty but also enjoy a bit of quiet time in the evenings after the chaos during the daytime.
On days off, if staying for less than a month, we would hope potential Workawayers have plans to see some of Ireland. As it's pretty chaotic at home, it's usually mutually beneficial to have a break from each other during your days off!
Galway city isn't far away by bus (a 10 minute walk) or we can drop you in if we're heading that way.
Spiddal is a great base for exploring Connemara.A little more information

The working hours were very fair, we mostly weeded in the garden or played with their sweet children. Eimear cooked lovely meals for us. There is a lot to explore in the area: Galway, Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher...
We wish you all the best!!

My two boys adored her, she is gifted with children with such a talent for playing (and playing with a 1yo and 3yo is no easy task) and making up games and outdoor activities. Our house is chaotic and in a constant state of upheavel with the boys but she… read more
